While the Death Eaters were evil in Harry Potter, there are members of Voldemort’s troops that have some redeeming qualities.

There were two significant Wizarding Wars in the Harry Potter lexicon, one that took place years ago and the other that played out in the novels’ pages and on the big screen in the movies. Both of the wars featured Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix taking on the evil Death Eaters under the rule of Lord Voldemort.
However, while the Order of the Phoenix fought for the side of good and the Death Eaters were mostly evil, there are many members of Voldemort’s troops that have various shades of grey, keeping them a little more morally questionable. At least one of them turned out to be a true hero in the end.
10 Severus Snape
The most heroic member of the Death Eaters is Severus Snape. For most of the series, he was the man who fans thought was an evil and vindictive person, always bullying and pushing around Harry Potter. He was also by the side of Lord Voldemort and appeared to betray Dumbledore. However, Snape was a double-agent and was working for Dumbledore the entire time. He saved Draco from making a decision that would ruin his life and saved Harry Potter’s life in the end.
9 Draco Malfoy
While Draco Malfoy was the biggest personal antagonist for Harry Potter throughout the entire franchise, he was also a tragic character. Draco was a child, and he was mostly at the mercy of his parents, both Death Eaters. It was almost like he had no chance to escape those shadows. However, he did escape. He didn’t kill Dumbledore as ordered, and this helped in the defeat of Voldemort. Following the Harry Potter series, Draco ended up having a normal life and had a child who moved the Malfoy bloodline into a more positive direction.
8 Narcissa Malfoy
Narcissa Malfoy was a pureblood who was the younger sister of Bellatrix Lestrange and the wife of Lucious Malfoy. While she was never an “official” Death Eater, she was there through it all, supporting her husband and serving as a loyal follower to Lord Voldemort. However, she changed when Lucius was put into Azkaban, and Voldemort ordered her son to kill Dumbledore. Narcissa betrayed Voldemort by lying about Harry being dead at the Battle of Hogwarts and ran with her son, leaving the Death Eaters completely.
7 Igor Karkaroff
Igor Karkaroff was a Death Eater during the First Wizarding War and served Lord Voldemort throughout that battle. However, when the war ended, and Voldemort fell, Karkaroff was imprisoned in Azkaban. That is when Karkaroff went into self-preservation mode.
Karkaroff turned in several other Death Eaters in the Wizengamot, and thanks to his testimony, his crimes were pardoned. Karkaroff went on to later success, as he became the headmaster at Durmstrang. When the Death Eaters returned, he ran, but they hunted him down and killed him for his betrayal.
6 Peter Pettigrew
Peter Pettigrew was the most devious member of the Order of the Phoenix and committed one of the most heinous acts in history. He was formerly the best friend of James Potter, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin. However, he betrayed the Order of the Phoenix when he helped Voldemort murder both James and Lily before framing Sirius for their deaths. In the present-day, Peter was still a repulsive yet cowardly man, but he died when he showed rare mercy and chose not to kill Harry Potter.
5 Corban Yaxley
Corban Yaxley was a Death Eater who fought in the First Wizarding War. When the war ended, Yaxley moved on but was not arrested or sent to Azkaban. He did not try to find Voldemort but was forgiven when his master returned in 1995. Yaxley returned for the Second Wizarding War and became one of the most dangerous Death Eaters when Voldemort named him the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. He survived the war but was captured by George Weasley.
4 Lucius Malfoy
The Malfoy family played a big part in both Wizarding Wars. Lucius Malfoy was a Death Eater in the First Wizarding War. However, when Voldemort fell in defeat in the first war, Malfoy lied and claimed he was under the Imperius Curse and had no control over his actions. The lie worked, and he remained part of the social elite.
In the Second Wizarding War, he put his son in danger, as he allowed Voldemort to use Draco for his own purposes. He was devious, trying to ruin Arthur Weasley’s career. At the Battle of Hogwarts, Lucius had fallen hard, and it was his wife Narcissa, who was strong enough to save them. Since Lucius defected, he once again avoided Azkaban.
3 Barty Crouch, Jr.
Barty Crouch Jr. was the son of Bartemius Crouch Sr. and was a follower of Lord Voldemort. He became a Death Eater and Dark Wizard as a teenager. Crouch was part of the First Wizarding War, and after Voldemort was defeated, he used the Crusiatus Curse to drive the Longbottom’s insane. Barty Crouch escaped Azkaban and then captured and impersonated Mad-Eye Moody to set up Harry to fall to Voldemort. His end came after a Dementor’s Kiss.
2 Fenrir Greyback
Fenrir Greyback was a werewolf who was also a Death Eater. He was savage and was one of the most despicable Death Eaters since he had a reputation for attacking children. Greyback is the man who attacked Remus Lupin as a child and turned him into a werewolf. Greyback took part in the Second Wizarding War as his pack aligned themselves with Voldemort. He did not have the Dark Mark but was an ally of the Death Eaters and fought with them to the end when Ron Weasley and Neville Longbottom finally defeated him.
1 Bellatrix Lestrange
Bellatrix Lestrange was the most villainous of the Death Eaters. She was a pure-blood Dark witch, the cousin of Sirius Black, the sister of Narcissa Malfoy, and the aunt of Andromeda Tonks. She studied at Hogwarts and was accepted into Slytherin. She became a Death Eater when she graduated and was a fanatically loyal follower to Lord Voldemort. She murdered Sirius Black and her own niece, Tonks. She also murdered Dobby, the House Elf. She was the last Death Eater standing before Molly Weasley killed her.
