Hawkeye Cast Guide Every New & Returning Marvel Character

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Hawkeye.

The Hawkeye cast boasts several new and returning Marvel characters from across the wider MCU. Marvel Studios’ expanded its reach after the Infinity Saga’s conclusion by making original content for Disney+ focusing on secondary characters. Disney’s streaming service allowed Clint Barton a chance to finally take the spotlight, being the focus of his own series, Hawkeye. Marvel officially announced the series in 2019 after years of considering Jeremy Renner’s archer to be the lead of a movie. Instead of getting a solo film like other original Avengers members, Hawkeye was left to be a supporting character in five MCU movies.

Hawkeye takes place after Avengers: Endgame and continues Clint Barton’s MCU story more than a year after his family returned after being dusted by Thanos. The series takes a street-level approach to Hawkeye’s story and is heavily inspired by Matt Fraction and David Aja’s beloved comic run. On top of showing Clint’s evolution, Hawkeye also is responsible for introducing his MCU replacement, Kate Bishop — a notable archer in her own right. They originally get wrapped up in a New York set adventure after she acquires the Ronin suit, but they quickly realize that something bigger is going on. It involves encountering new threats, familiar characters from past Marvel productions, unraveling multiple mysteries, and taking down a potential Avengers-level threat. In typical Marvel fashion, the end results should have massive repercussions for the future.

With six episodes of content in total, the amount of characters in Hawkeye’s cast is quite large. The show does primarily revolve around the MCU’s most notable archer and another Marvel sharpshooter, but Clint Barton and Kate Bishop are just the tips of the iceberg. The series treats viewers to revisiting other recognizable characters from the MCU’s past and introducing new ones who should be important to where the franchise goes moving forward. Plus, the Disney+ show also brings Lucky the Pizza Dog to the MCU at long last. Here’s a guide to Hawkeye’s cast of talented actors and the Marvel characters each of them plays.

Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton a.k.a. Hawkeye

Jeremy Renner returns as Clint Barton to star in Hawkeye. Renner made his MCU debut in 2011 thanks to a short cameo in Thor. This set up his return in The Avengers and the important role he’d play in the shared universe overall. Renner’s Hawkeye has appeared in five MCU movies so far, and Hawkeye shows what’s become of Clint after Avengers: Endgame. This includes spending time with his wife and kids after helping bring them back from Thanos’ snap, confronting demons from his time as Ronin, and training Kate Bishop to be a new superhero. Some of Renner’s other notable credits include The Hurt Locker and The Town — both of which he received Oscar nominations for — but he also is starring in the Paramount+ original series Mayor of Kingstown.

Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop

Hawkeye is the MCU debut for Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. The series is expected to be the start of Kate becoming a prominent character in the Marvel world. She is a highly skilled archer and fighter who has spent much of her young adult life honing these skills following the death of her father. Kate is also a huge Hawkeye fan, just like in the comics, and becomes wrapped up in an adventure with Clint after acquiring the Ronin suit. Steinfeld was long-rumored to be the front-runner to play Kate Bishop in the MCU, and the 24-year-old actress has earned high praise for her portrayal of the fan-favorite character. Steinfeld’s notable acting credits include her Oscar-nominated role in True Grit, starring in Apple TV+’s Dickinson, and leading Bumblebee.

Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop

One of the new Marvel characters introduced in Hawkeye is Eleanor Bishop, played by Vera Farmiga. Eleanor is Kate’s mother and a successful businesswoman who owns Bishop Security. Marvel’s comics haven’t given her much of a role in the past, as she supposedly died when Kate was still a child. It wasn’t until much later on that Eleanor returned and was revealed to be involved in Madame Masque’s schemes. Vera Farmiga was previously nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Up in the Air, but she is best known for her roles in The Conjuring franchise as Lorraine Warren and Bates Motel as Norma Bates. Prior to Hawkeye, Farmiga also appeared in The Many Saints of Newark as Livia Soprano.

Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne a.k.a. Swordsman

Hawkeye also features the MCU debut of Tony Dalton’s Jack Duquesne a.k.a. Swordsman. Jack is an expert fighter with swords and is generally obsessed with them. He’s also in a romantic relationship with Eleanor and the CEO of Sloan LTD, which is a front for the Tracksuit Mafia. In the comics, Duquesne became an Avenger for some time after starting out as more of a villain. He was meant to be a spy for the Mandarin but grew to like being a hero. Swordsman was a mentor to Clint Barton back when the hero was young, and he taught his mentee how to master a bow with the help of Trickshot. Tony Dalton is best known for playing Lalo Salamanca in Better Call Saul since season 4.

Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez a.k.a. Echo

Another exciting new Marvel character in Hawkeye is Maya Lopez a.k.a. Echo, played by Alaqua Cox. She isn’t usually associated with Hawkeye in the comics, although Echo was the first one to wear the Ronin suit in the source material. Her involvement in Hawkeye’s cast is as the current leader of the Tracksuit Mafia, and she has a vendetta against Ronin for killing her father. Maya Lopez is a deaf Native American assassin who, in the comics, was raised by Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin from a young age following the death of her dad. Kingpin originally told Echo that Daredevil killed her father and hid the truth that he was responsible. Alaqua Cox makes her acting debut in Hawkeye but is confirmed to return after for her spinoff Disney+ show Echo.

Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova

Following her MCU debut in Black Widow, Florence Pugh returned as Yelena Belova in Hawkeye episode 4. Yelena sports a brand new look with an all-black suit that includes a mask with glowing green goggles, which is a direct match for her comic look when she was known as Adaptoid. She also is equipped with her own set of Black Widow stingers, although hers glow red and not blue like Natasha Romanoff’s. Yelena is on a mission to kill Clint Barton thanks to her new assignment from Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine in Black Widow’s post-credits scene. Hawkeye is Pugh’s second MCU appearance, but viewers might also recognize her from films like Midsommar, Fighting With My Family, and her Oscar-nominated performance in Little Women.

Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin

Hawkeye’s cast also officially includes the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin. His involvement was originally teased in episode 3, which makes multiple mentions of Echo’s powerful “uncle” and true leader of the Tracksuit Mafia. But it is during Maya’s origin scenes that one of her father’s colleagues greets her. His face isn’t shown as Hawkeye only offers a glimpse at the nice black suit the man is wearing and his seemingly large hand. The individual’s laugh can also briefly be heard, which foreshadowed the actual appearance of D’Onofrio in Hawkeye episode 5. His cameo confirmed that Kate’s mother is working with Kingpin, making him one of her powerful friends the show previously alluded to. Even though the show is now viewed as not part of the MCU canon, Vincent D’Onofrio previously played Wilson Fisk in all three seasons of Daredevil on Netflix. Beyond his Kingpin experience, D’Onofrio has also been in Full Metal Jacket, Men in Black, and Jurassic World.
