Heroes (Other Than Batman) Gotham Knights Should Include

Gotham Knights will set players in a version of Gotham without Batman, but that doesn’t mean its playable characters will be the only heroes making an appearance, and there are some (outside of Batman) that should likely be included. Now that Batman isn’t the game’s focus, WB Games Montréal can develop other vigilantes across Gotham’s rooftops. Little information has been revealed about Gotham Knights, but Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin are the confirmed heroes so far.

It’s currently unknown whether Gotham Knights will feature DLCs that expand the playable roster of characters. Still, the game’s official Reddit page is filled with hopes for other characters to meet or play as. However, even if other playable characters don’t end up getting added, more heroes should still appear throughout Gotham. Batman’s death in Gotham Knights means villains will likely try and conquer the city. While Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin are formidable opponents, other heroes are likely to appear throughout Gotham after Batman’s death, especially other members of the Batfamily.

Duke Thomas is one of the Batfamily’s newest additions and the only superpowered hero in the bunch. Duke’s claim to fame arrived during Zero Year when the Riddler took control of Gotham’s power for a year and would only restore it if someone answered his riddle. Duke showed his intelligence by answering this riddle and saving the city, though he was orphaned after Joker used a toxic gas to drive his parents mad. After being adopted by Batman, a new superhero persona was born, and Duke, as Signal, became Gotham’s daytime protector. His ability to bend light to his will makes Signal a mighty hero. It could be one of the characters Gotham Knights’ playable roster interacts with while securing the city and taking down the Court of Owls.

Gotham Knights Should Feature Heroes With Their Own Stories

Stephanie Brown is Batman’s fourth Robin and the fourth Batgirl, but her independent identity as Spoiler created a unique addition to the Batfamily. Unlike other heroes in Gotham, Stephanie Brown is the child of a villain, Cluemaster. Her upbringing wasn’t the best, but she matured into a bright young woman dedicated to doing the right thing. Additionally, Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake once had a relationship that could craft an engaging narrative for Robin throughout Gotham Knights’ story and open-world missions. The only romance present in the Batman Arkham series was occasional flirting from Catwoman and the relationship between Batgirl and Robin. By implementing Spoiler or Stephanie Brown, Gotham Knights could humanize their seemingly invincible vigilantes.

Kate Kane, better known as Batwoman, is Bruce Wayne’s cousin on his mother’s side. The Kane family is also an influential family throughout Gotham and enjoys a luxurious lifestyle. Similar to Bruce’s trauma, the family suffered severe losses after the death of Kate’s mother and the disappearance of her sister. Earlier iterations of Batwoman featured her use of guns and deadly force, which could be an interesting combination with Gotham Knights’ Red Hood and his fighting style. The loss of Bruce Wayne (and Batman) could certainly be a driving force for Kate Kane to enter the battlefield.

Aside from its delay, WB Games Montréal revealed little about Gotham Knights, but DC Fandome promises to deliver more information on the Batman Arkham series’ spiritual successor. In addition to Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin, several villains have been confirmed. Early gameplay revealed Gotham’s ice villain, Mr. Freeze, and the game’s reveal trailer confirmed the Court of Owls and Talon as primary antagonists. Gotham Knights’ delay pushed its release date back to 2022.
