House Of Gucci The Main Characters Ranked By Likability

Based on an incredible true story, the biographical crime drama House of Gucci follows all of the backstabbing, powerplays, and manipulation involving the famous fashion family. Given all of the greed and lust for power, the movie features characters with varying levels of likability doing some questionable things that cause the audience to root for or against them.

Some of the characters are unlikable and only care about consolidating their money and power like Rodolfo Gucci and Domenico De Sole, others are more concerned with preserving the legacy like Aldo Gucci, and some of the characters are likable and morally ambiguous like Maurizio Gucci and Patrizia Reggiani.

8 Rodolfo Gucci

Because the plot of the stylish crime movie takes cues from The Godfather and Shakespeare, the death of patriarch Rodolfo Gucci is the catalyst for many of the movie’s events. Prior to his death, Rodolfo is shown to be a stern and bitter man who is willing to cut off his own son if he does not obey him.

He is a cold and closed-minded man who fails to heed the warning of his brother and ends up a lonely old man. His disdain for Patrizia because she comes from the working class and his willingness to turn his back on his own son makes him the most unlikable main character in the film.

7 Domenico De Sole

As a long-time trusted associate of Rodolfo’s, Domenico De Sole has an influential position in the Gucci family’s legal and financial matters. Because of his many years of service, Maurizio believes that Domenico is loyal to the family. However, Domenico betrays this trust and ends up making a play for more power and money.

For much of the film, Domenico appears to be an upstanding and likable character. However, Patrizia never trusts him and his move to buy Maurizio’s shares seems to prove her suspicions right. This massive betrayal of trust makes him a pretty unlikable character.

6 Pina

Pina is a television psychic who develops a relationship with Patrizia when Patrizia seeks her out for readings. Through their conversations, Pina encourages Patrizia’s greed and eventually helps put her in contact with the men who carry out the assassination of Maurizio.

Pina does not get a lot of screen time to develop as a character but she is clearly a negative influence on Patrizia who brings out the worst in her. She feeds into Patrizia’s lust for money and power and ultimately contributes to murder, making it difficult for the audience to root for her.

5 Nemir Kirdar

Because House of Gucci is a movie about the fashion industry, the behind-the-scenes business dealings are a large focus of the film. As part of his powerplay, Maurizio brings in Nemir Kirdar to buy up the other shares and help him gain control of the company.

Nemir is a shrewd businessman who treats Gucci like a business, rather than a family affair. He is willing to drive out anyone that stands in the way of his financial gain, eventually turning on Maurizio and forcing him out. Nemir is neither likable nor unlikable but acts in a calculated and objective manner.

4 Patrizia Reggiani

Coming from a blue-collar background, Patrizia sees a golden opportunity when she meets Maurizio and aggressively pursues a romantic relationship with him. When Aldo offers him a position at the company, she pushes him to give up the life he was content with so that she could chase more money and power.

Over and over again throughout the movie, she proves to be a selfish ad greedy person who is willing to do whatever it takes to get more, with her ambition leading her to have her husband murdered. She is charming, calculated, and lethal, characteristics that make her a worthy candidate as one of the best movie villains ever.

3 Paolo Gucci

From the beginning, it is clear that the entire family looks down on Paolo Gucci, with his own father describing him as “an idiot.” Paolo makes bad decisions, drastically overestimates his own talent, and is easily manipulated into getting his father arrested.

On the surface, he is an unlikable and incompetent character. However, Paolo is easily the funniest character in the movie, even if he is usually the butt of the joke. He may be a bumbling fool, but he steals every scene he is in and provides the audience with plenty of entertainment, endearing himself to the viewer.

2 Maurizio Gucci

As one of the leads at the center of the biographical story in House of Gucci, Maurizio Gucci has the Michael Corleone-style arc as he tries to break free from his family business only to get pulled into their world of greed and corruption. At the beginning of the film, he proves that he is willing to walk away from all of his money and status for love.

The fact that he is content to live a low-profile life of hard work but is manipulated into giving it up by Patrizia makes him a sympathetic character. While he ultimately becomes just as awful and unlikeable as the rest of his family, he does show that he has the ability to be different and demonstrates his likability.

1 Aldo Gucci

While his brother Rodolfo is cold and calculated, Aldo Gucci takes a warmer and more family-focused approach to running the business. He is quick to forgive, welcoming Maurizio back into the business and embracing Paolo after finding out that he agreed to sell his shares.

He may be a little too stuck in the past and does commit tax fraud, but overall he is one of the kinder and more sympathetic characters in the film. He genuinely cares about the family and the Gucci name. He loves the luxurious lifestyle, but that is not his only motivating factor. He wants the best for his family and is willing to do anything to make sure they are happy.
