How Animal Crossing Monopoly Compares To New Horizons

It was announced this week that Hasbro will be releasing an Animal Crossing: New Horizons version of Monopoly later this summer. Fans will explore the board as an Animal Crossing villager, collecting resources, exploring islands, and earning Nook Miles. While many of these mechanics are familiar to fans of New Horizons, they have been repurposed for Monopoly. This offers fans of both games a new and unique way to enjoy the gameplay with family and friends.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons focuses on building up a thriving island community by upgrading buildings and inviting villagers to live in the town. New Horizons encourages creativity, with numerous decoration options players can craft or purchase at stores like Nook’s Cranny. While players won’t be upgrading and decorating homes in the New Horizons version of Monopoly, resources and decoration items will still be important, as they are the key to earning the Monopoly version of Nook Miles.

Nook Miles are earned in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by completing challenges listed in the Nook Miles app on the player’s phone. These challenges include catching fishing, crafting DIY recipes, and collecting fruit among many other daily tasks. Nook Miles can be used to purchase Nook Miles Tickets, expand pockets, and unlock new hairstyles for character customization. According to CNET, the New Horizons version of Monopoly calculates Nook Miles using decoration items. Decorations are purchased with Bells earned by selling resources. Each decoration has a certain value in Nook Miles, and the player with the most Nook Miles at the end of the game wins.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Monopoly Players Get To Be Villagers

While finding and collecting villagers for an Animal Crossing town is a primary mechanic in the video game, New Horizons Monopoly takes a different approach. Instead, players select one of four villagers to control as they adventure around the board. However, fans of New Horizons’ popular villagers like Raymond or Marshall may be disappointed to learn existing favorites won’t be included as options. According to images shared by Hasbro on Twitter, the villagers will include 4 humans similar to Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ playable characters.

While players won’t be building towns in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Monopoly, they will get to explore mystery islands. Instead of purchasing spaces around the board, they will act as islands that players can land on and discover. Once discovered, the player can continue to collect the island’s resource every time it is landed on by anyone playing. Discovering these islands won’t require the Dodo Airlines, or a Nook Miles Ticket, but traveling around the board in the Monopoly version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons will hopefully allow fans of the series a new way to have exciting adventures.
