How The Superman & Lois Finale Sets Up Morgan Edges Season 2 Story

Warning: SPOILERS for Superman & Lois’ Season 1 Finale – “Last Sons of Krypton”.

Superman & Lois’ finale set up the next phase of Morgan Edge’s (Adam Rayner) story and it will be interesting what happens next to the Kryptonian half-brother of Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) in season 2. The Man of Steel publicly revealed that Edge is actually Tal-Rho from Krypton after he and John Henry Irons (Wole Parks) stopped the villain’s plot to stage a Kryptonian takeover of Earth. Irons also used his red sun-powered hammer to de-power Edge before he was taken into custody.

Morgan Edge in Superman & Lois is a total retcon of the version of Edge in Supergirl played by Adrian Pasdar. In the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths Arrowverse, Edge was re-introduced as a billionaire CEO who was buying up small towns under the guise of helping the local people and economy. In reality, Edge was looking for X-Kryptonite, which he found in abundance in Smallville’s Shuster Mines. Edge needed X-Kryptonite in order to turn humans into Kryptonians, with the Eradicator’s power performing mind-swaps. Soon, Edge revealed that he was also a Kryptonian and the older half-brother of Superman on their mother, Lara Lor-Van’s, side. In addition, Tal-Rho was acting in service of his evil father, Zeta-Rho (A.C. Peterson), and he was really just a pawn intended to be sacrificed as a vessel for the Eradicator.

Now that Morgan Edge has been defeated, depowered, and apprehended by the Department of Defense, some intriguing possibilities open up for the villain in Superman & Lois season 2. Certainly, Edge can continue to be a threat to the world, whether or not he regains his abilities. His ally Leslie Larr (Stacey Farber) still has her Kryptonian abilities and could escape and break Edge out of confinement. Thanks to Superman, Edge’s true identity is now publicly known and the Man of Steel likely dismantled Edge’s desert Fortress of Solitude but Tal-Rho may have other resources to draw upon hidden away on Earth. However, Superman made sure that Morgan Edge’s plan to use X-Kryptonite to turn humans into Kryptonian Subjekts was no longer possible, so at least Superman & Lois season 2 would attempt to rehash the plot that spanned nearly all of season 1.

However, Superman & Lois’ finale also set up a redemption arc for Morgan Edge and that has some intriguing possibilities. After he was beaten and rendered human, Edge confessed to Superman that “all I wanted was a family.” Indeed, Tal-Rho is actually the sad product of the failure of both nature and nurture. Tal-Rho was treated as an enemy alien after he arrived on Earth as a child and Zeta-Rho was a cruel, malevolent man who used his son as a pawn and showed him no love or affection. Edge sincerely wanted Superman as his brother, albeit to help him turn Earth into a new Krypton.

If Edge wants to be redeemed, he could be a valuable ally to Superman, and Tal-Rho would also benefit from having his brother in his life. In turn, Edge could replace the Jor-El (Angus Macfadyen) avatar Zeta-Rho killed. Edge also possesses knowledge of Krypton’s history and it would be interesting to see Tal-Rho become an adviser to Kal-El. In addition, Edge could even mentor Jordan Kent (Alex Garfin) to use his powers in ways Clark can’t. Not only would it be a way for him to make it up to his nephew after Edge kidnapped and hid Jordan before implanting Zeta-Roh’s personality in his body, but Superman & Lois already drew the intriguing visual parallel that young Tal-Rho physically resembled Jordan.

Morgan Edge on a redemption path in Superman & Lois season 2 could also echo how John Henry Irons originally planned to kill Superman but ended up as his super friend. Rather than rehashing Edge as a villain, it would be more fitting, and perfectly in character, for the optimistic Clark to have faith that his brother could become a better person. It would certainly be quite a turnaround for “Uncle Morgan” to join the Kents at their dinner table in season 2 but one of Superman’s greatest powers is his ability to see and bring out the best in others. That could help change Morgan Edge to the side of good in Superman & Lois season 2.
