Because of this, the Variant Human race makes most sense for Jinx. It is also the most flexible option, as the two free ability score increases allow the player to shore up weaker stats, or double down on their character’s strengths.

Variant Humans also provide the character with an extra language, skill, and a feat right at the start of the game. The free language is the least important of the three, so players should coordinate with their Dungeon Master to pick one that makes the most sense for the setting, and the character they’re building. For the free skill, Intimidation makes the most sense, as Jinx frequently threatens and interrogates people for information. The best feat for Jinx to take is Gunner, which allows the character to ignore the loading property of firearms and disadvantage on ranged attacks from being within five feet of an enemy. This will help players recreat moments like Jinx’s battle with the Firelights.

The Best D&D Background For Jinx

Picking a background for any character in D&D is difficult. Choosing only one aspect of a character’s origin significantly impacts their personality and story. In Jinx’s case, Criminal and Urchin could represent her upbringing. However, Haunted One highlights the tragedy of Jinx’s origin. Jinx usually fights from range using a large arsenal of guns and does not have any innate magical abilities. While this seems to indicate she would be a Fighter with the archery fighting style, there’s more to her character than that. Jinx is also a tinkerer who builds her own weapons, which makes it obvious that she Jinx should be an Artillerist Artificer.

Beyond that, Jinx should have a decent Charisma score to help with the many Intimidation checks she’ll likely make to get information.

The Best D&D Feats For Jinx

Besides Gunner, there are quite a few other feats that can help make a character feel more like Jinx. Mobile allows Jinx to get in and out of effective range easier and helps represent her passive “Get Excited!” from League of Legends. Resilient and Tough are useful as well. Though Jinx can not take a lot of damage in-game she has survived multiple tragidies in her life.

Finally, Skulker is another great feat for anyone used to surviving in the undercity of Zaun the way Arcane’s interpretation of Jinx is. This can help someone who frequently sneaks up on people or is simply good at keeping out of sight in the shadows. When building Jinx, it is important to keep in mind every aspect of her character. Careful thought during character creation will lead to a build that mirrors the high-energy spirit of Jinx, while also being unique and powerful at the table.
