How to Find (& Catch) Poliwag in Pokémon Sword & Shield

With the introduction of the Isle of Armor DLC, there is now a vast amount of new Pokemon for players to catch in Pokemon Sword & Shield. Most of these additions are Pokemon from past generations that were not originally included in the base version of the game. Players will be able to beef up their teams with all kinds of Pokemon both new and old if they purchase the game’s expansion.

One of the older Pokemon that was introduced is the very popular Poliwag. This tadpole-esque creature is an impressive water type that was created for the first generation of Pokemon games. Players will be able to level up Poliwag in interesting ways and it even has the choice of two different final evolutions depending on what items it is holding when it levels up. Poliwag and its evolutions are a great addition to any player’s team and this guide will show players how and where to catch it at.

Pokemon Sword & Shield: How to Catch Poliwag

Poliwag is actually a very rare Pokemon that isn’t very easy to find most of the time. Once players have obtained the DLC for the game they will need to travel over to the Isle of Armor. Once here the only reliable location to discover Poliwag’s is in the Brawler’s Cave. It is very possible to find one just walking around, but players will have better odds if they surf the bodies of water that are in the cave. Players should probably bring some Net Balls with them as they make it easier to catch water-type Pokemon.

If players would rather have one of the evolved forms of Poliwag they will need to look around a little harder. Players will be able to find Poliwrath inside Brawler’s Cave as well, but there is a much lower chance of tracking the Pokemon down than its unevolved version. It’s other final evolution Politoed can be found wandering the Soothing Wetlands areas, and players can also find Poliwhirl here as well.

If players want to evolve their Poliwag they can wait until level 25 to have it evolve into Poliwhirl. In order to get it to turn into the final evolutions, players will need some special items though. Players can get a Poliwrath by giving Poliwhirl a water stone and letting it level up again. Those who want a Politoed will need to give Poliwrath a King’s Rock before letting it level up.
