How to Get Blue Pikmin in Pikmin 3 Deluxe

In Pikmin 3 Deluxe, players can collect different kinds of Pikmin, each with unique abilities, to help them explore the different biomes. Pikmin comes with both abilities, like creating electricity, and immunities, like fire resistance, that make them useful in almost any situation. In the game, the player controls three explorers searching the planet PNF-404 for food to bring back to the people on their starving home planet. Along the way, they will need to find and ally with all the different kinds of Pikmin to be successful in this endeavor.

The last Pikmin players will unlock is the Blue Pikmin. These tend to be the most difficult to reach, partly because they require the player to get another kind of Pikmin first. Blue Pikmin are particularly beneficial in water, though they are generally considered the weakest among all the Pikmin varieties. Nonetheless, they are an important part of the story, and players will want to be sure to find them. Here’s how to get Blue Pikmin in Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

Progressing the main story is the only way to reach the Blue Pikmin. Blue Pikmin are located where the player first crash-lands in the Garden of Hope, but they won’t be accessible until later in the story. They can be found in the part of the level blocked off at the start of the game.

The Onion containing the Blue Pikmin is submerged in water. Pikmin that enter the water will usually drown, but players can use the pink, Winged Pikmin, which can fly, to pluck out the Onion, and access the Blue Pikmin.

To get Winged Pikmin, players will need to complete the first part of the Garden of Hope, progress to the Distant Tundra, and reach the Tropical Wilds. After defeating the boss there, they will head to the Twilight River, which is where the Winged Pikmin make their home.

Once players have the Winged Pikmin, they can continue progressing the story until they reach the Follow Olimar quest. At this point, Louie will end up crash-landing the ship back at the Garden of Hope, destroying the barricade barring players from half the level.

To find Blue Pikmin, players will want to enter the path Louie’s wreck opens and keep right at the fork in the road. They will see the Blue Onion in a shallow body of water. The player will need to target the Onion and have Winged Pikmin pluck it out of the ground. Once they are successful, Blue Pikmin will appear and join the player.

Blue Pikmin are required for accessing certain fruits located underwater or partially submerged. They are also required when players take on the Puckering Blinnow, Sputtlefish, and Toady Bloyster, three enemies always located underwater. They are not required but are recommended for taking on other creatures that appear near water or can survive in and out of the water. Blue Pikmin are also particularly useful when taking on the Quaggled Mireclops, the boss of the level during which players get them. This is because they will not drown in the puddles the Quaggled Mireclops creates with its feet.
