If players find themselves disconnected from a match in Mario Party Superstars, they aren’t at risk of losing all their progress. Mario Party Superstars is an online, friendship-killing Mario Party extravaganza. It takes everything that players love about earlier franchise installments and builds upon those features. Mario Party Superstars has a convenient online framework that allows players to duke it out with friends and random opponents alike. Mario Party Superstars’ planned DLC and their distillation of some of the best minigames makes it a great time to play.
Mario Party Superstars isn’t too different from the previous ones, with the exception of some new items in Mario Party Superstars, so each session can still last quite a long time. Under certain rulesets, games can easily take hours to complete. This means players are likely to get invested, and any risk of losing all their hard work, time, and effort could ruin the game entirely. Unfortunately, unstable internet connections are a real issue, and they pose that exact risk for many players. Disconnecting from games could mean a waste of a couple of hours.
An online Mario Party experience would be unsustainable if it were that easy to lose hours of progress. Nintendo made sure to give players a way to get back into a Mario Party Superstars game that they disconnected from. Luckily, it is extremely easy and presented to players directly so they can’t miss it.
How to Rejoin an Online Lobby in Mario Party Superstars
Players can disconnect from a lobby for a number of reasons. Their Nintendo Switch could run out of battery, their internet connection could fail to keep them in the game, or any other sort of hardware/software malfunction could result in a disconnection. To reconnect, all players have to do is open Mario Party Superstars again, and they will be prompted with the message, “You can rejoin the game you were playing before. Rejoin?” and “Yes” and “No” buttons. they can click “Yes” to reconnect, or click “No” to find another game.
Currently, there is no penalty for declining to rejoin a game. This may change if leavers become a big issue in Mario Party Superstars, but, for now, it doesn’t seem that leaver penalties are on the way anytime soon. While players are disconnected, a CPU takes their place. Upon reconnecting, the players will take their character over again at the start of the next player’s turn, or the start of the next minigame. After reconnecting, players are free to get back into Mario Party Superstars’ minigames (without injuring themselves).
