How To Take Even Faster Screenshots On Pixel 6 And Pixel 6 Pro

There are multiple ways to take a screenshot on a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro smartphone, but some are quicker than others and Quick Tap is probably the fastest overall. If in need of capturing the screen more quickly than the time it takes to hold down the buttons, then a simple change in the Pixel 6 phone’s settings is all that’s needed to enable a button-free screenshot lifestyle.

Quick Tap is not necessarily exclusive to the Pixel 6 series. Instead, it is a feature that’s packaged with Android 12 and available to other Pixel phones that have been updated to the latest operating system version. Whether this means Quick Tap will also eventually come to non-Pixel phones as part of their individual Android 12 rollout remains to be seen, but it is possible.

Quick Tap is one of those self-explained names, as all the user needs to do is quickly tap on the back of the phone to perform a dedicated action, such as taking a screenshot. Technically, it should have been called ‘quick double-tap’ as two taps in quick succession are required. With only two taps on the back of the device needed to immediately take a screenshot, it is a super-fast way to capture what’s on the screen compared to Google’s other options. For example, pressing the Power and Volume Down keys together and waiting a few seconds, or opening the recents screen and then tapping on the “Screenshot” button.

Hot To Turn Quick Tap On

As Quick Tap is not enabled by default, it will need to be turned on before it can be used. To enable Quick Tap, open the settings, scroll down and tap on System. From here, tap on Gestures, on Quick Tap, and then toggle “Use Quick Tap” to the on position. Alternatively, the user can just search for “Gestures” or even “Quick Tap” in the settings search bar to get to the same section even faster. If the feature doesn’t work as expected, or proves too annoying due to accidental taps, Quick Tap can be disabled just as easily by returning to the same section of the settings and toggling off again.

One of the interesting things about Quick Tap is that it’s not just for screenshots. Through the same settings section, the user can change the action to launch Google Assistant, play and pause media, open the recent apps menu or show notifications. In fact, the quick double-tap on the back of the phone action can even be customized to open an app of the user’s choice. For many Pixel 6 and 6 Pro owners, however, Quick Tap will prove to be most useful for taking a super-fast screenshot.
