DreamWorks Animation released a new trailer for the upcoming How to Train Your Dragon spinoff series Dragons: The Nine Realms.

The trailer features a group of modern-day teens at a research facility, where they’re warned to stay away from a massive fissure. Inevitably, one of the teens falls into the fissure and is saved by a dragon. He and his friends soon discover the fissure is actually full of the mythical beasts, hidden away for over a century.

Along with the trailer, DreamWorks confirmed that Jeremy Shada is joined by fellow voice cast members Julia Stiles, Marcus Scribner, Aimee Garcia, Ashley Liao, Lauren Tom, Keston John, Justina Machado and D’arcy Carden.

Based on the children’s novel series of the same name by author Cressida Cowell, DreamWorks’ original How to Train Your Dragon film series began in 2010 and continued with How to Train Your Dragon 2 in 2014 and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in 2019. However, The Nine Realms is far from the first television show the franchise has spawned, as past projects include DreamWorks Dragons/Dragons: Race to the Edge and Dragons: Rescue Riders.

Dragons: The Nine Realms premieres Dec. 23 on Hulu and Peacock.
