How to Unlock Mythic Paths in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

Besides the traditional roleplaying leveling system, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous introduces Mythic Path ranking from the tabletop game. This allows an extra layer of character customization by taking on outer realm powers from Heaven, the Abyss, or Elysium. Mythic Parties will have much higher stats and spells than a typical Pathfinder hero, and should in turn expect to battle equally strong foes.

Mythic Paths can drastically change the story of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. New and unique NPCs will join the Crusade, offering side quests that push their own agenda. This can cause some plot threads to be more relevant, others to become unavailable, and entire allegiances to switch sides.

A Mythic Path can be picked independently of class or alignment. However, as one begins Act 5 the associated Mythic mentor will force an alignment shift towards their own morals. This can cause issues for alignment based classes like Paladin, Cleric, Inquisitor, Monk, and Barbarian. Players will want to plan for this change, including a possible need to fully respec the main character.

Base Mythics in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

There are six path options characters can select from during story events at Gray Garrison, Lost Chapel, and the assault on Drezen.

Angel Path

Angel is the first Mythic presented in the game and is Lawful Good. If other circumstances are met, it may be possible to ask Galfrey to join the party near the end of the game. During the prologue, players have the option of locating the relic sword Radiance for Lann and Wenduag. Even if the player declines (or is outright hostile) the sword will still be found for other plot reasons.

Demon Path

Demon is another early option found in the Shield Maze; it is the Chaotic Evil option. Going Demon Path will cause Arueshalae to leave the party if she still worships Desna. As players reach the end of the dungeon and confront the cultists, they should select the option to give in to their rage and bind the monster Savamelekh. Picking the Angelic option at this point may cause Wenduag to fight against the party, while going Demonic will have her join up even if she departed earlier.

Aeon Path

Aeon is one of the Mythics found in greater Kenabres and is Lawful Neutral. Camellia will abandon the party if players stay an Aeon during Act 5. Players will need to go to the Market Square and locate where Terendelev perished during the intro. The main character will see a vision of past events and gain the Purple Stone Knife in their fourth weapon slot. Later, during the raid on Gray Garrison the party will come to the Wardstone. Players must select the Aeon option, which destroys the knife in the process. Note that preserving the Purple Stone Knife is a requirement for many optional events and quests, so only select Aeon if one truly wants to commit to the Mythic.

Azata Path

Azata is the Chaotic Neutral Mythic first found in Kenabres. If players end up convincing Arueshalae to forsake Desna she will leave Azata parties. To unlock the Mythic, players must make it to the center of Market Square before the attack on Defender’s Heart tavern. If done early enough, one will find Hulrun and Ramien arguing (if after the tavern fight, Ramien will be executed). One must either kill Hulrun or broker peace between the two.

Afterward, follow Ramien to the Temple of Desna to the north. Here, one will meet another priest Ilkes who will ask for assistant finding his two allies, Aranka and Thall. Players will need to head to Party House, the recruitment mission to gain Daeran. Talking to the lead musician will reveal that she is Aranka. She will hand over a shawl and be told to give it to Thall. Return to the Market Square and just ahead from the entrance will be a single Crusader. Give him the shawl to find out he is Thall in disguise. Return back to the Temple of Desna and agree to sing along with the three to gain the Mythic Path.

Trickster Path

Trickster is Chaotic Neutral and the final Mythic within Kenabres. While committing and later reaffirming to it will greatly frustrate Regill, it is still optional to remove him from the party. Talking to Irabeth at Defender’s Heart will lead to a mission to save Storyteller from Blackwing Library. Parties will need to have members with high Lore Religion and Perception – Nenio, Daeran, or Ember are good choices.

Once inside the library, the party will roll for the two aforementioned skill checks. If both pass, players will be able to select a Trickster option to fool the enemy Chaleb you are on his side. If either check fails, Trickster will remain locked for the rest of the game so it may be able to save before arrival.

Lich Path

Lich is a Neutral Evil Mythic discovered traveling around the Mendev country. If players stick to the Mythic during Act 5, Seelah will leave the party. There are two steps to becoming a Lich. First, after the surprise swarm attack at Leaper’s Smile, the party will need to explore the underground cave. Go to the far west to find a group of undead lead by Garkel. Instead of fighting head-on, open the nearby chest and claim the Wand of Zacharius (otherwise Garkel and his minions will raise after being defeated).

Later, at the Lost Chapel a secret door to the church basement will appear after helping Galfrey. Head inside and in the western halls will be Zacharius. Surrender the wand to him and select the Evil option to suggest you would also like to learn the secrets of necromancy.

Committing to a Mythic in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

The first two Mythic ranks gained are always as a Mythic Hero. This draws power from the six Mythics, but doesn’t require a full commitment. This means players can mix and match the first two ranks with other powers from the remaining eight. Early options include:

It isn’t until the siege of Drezen and finding the Sword of Valor that players must fully commit to a single Mythic Path. At this point, the storyline will shift and provide benefits from Mythic ranks three through seven. However, for Mythic rank eight, a cutscene will occur where players can rethink their choice; taking on a different Mythic, staying with their selection, or casting all of them aside for additional class levels.
