Its Not Just You Facebook Instagram And WhatsApp Are Currently Down

Both Facebook and Instagram, two of the most popular social apps on the planet, are currently down. The two services spontaneously went down at around 11:45 a.m. EST and the company hasn’t revealed the cause. Facebook is in a unique position as one of the largest digital destinations not only because its user base is huge but because it also runs a number of equally popular services like Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. When one goes down, the rest tend to follow.

At present, Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger are not responding, leading to IP address errors on the web and elsewhere. The same is true of WhatsApp, which fails to load online. The apps for these services are also not responding, leaving users high and dry with nowhere to get updates on the status of the Facebook network. Even the Facebook Business status page is down, which suggests that whatever has taken the social giant down, the situation may actually be pretty serious.

Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp have all experienced outages in the past, and sometimes the downtime is as brief as a few minutes. This particular outage appears to be a bit different, as all of the services have remained down for close to a half-hour at the time of this writing and none of the sites or apps are showing signs that they are trying to come back online. As you might expect, users have flocked to Twitter to complain about the downtime, with WhatsApp already trending high on the news lists and the other apps and services not far behind.

How Long Will We Have To Wait?

With stuff like this, it’s really impossible to predict how long the downtime will last without the company offering some information on exactly what is going on. Oftentimes the sites and services that go down are suffering from other internet-related issues not directly connected to their business or company. In those cases, it’s often not up to those in charge of the sites or apps to fix things, but others that work on the so-called backbone of these internet-based social networks, apps, and other services.

For now, the best thing to do is make contact with whoever you need to contact using SMS or even Twitter, as both of those services appear to be just fine. If you rely on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook Messenger for work, well, I have great news: You just got an extra Monday break! Check back from time to time to see if the apps come back online, or wait for Facebook to make some kind of an announcement. Ironically, the company may have to take to Twitter to explain what is actually going on.
