Jim Bob Duggar Loses Arkansas Primary Race After Josh’s Conviction

19 Kids and Counting patriarch Jim Bob Duggar is dealing with another loss as his campaign for an Arkansas Senate seat has come to an end. The political loss comes just one week after his eldest son, Josh Duggar, was found guilty on both charges of child pornography. Josh’s behavior has affected the entire Duggar family, and now it is rolling over into their personal lives.

Viewers were instantly intrigued when 19 Kids and Counting made its debut on TLC in 2008. This extremely large and conservative family was unlike anything ever witnessed on television. TLC cameras followed the family as Michelle Duggar homeschooled while pregnant, and Jim Bob worked outside the home. Both parents had very strong religious beliefs, as their daughters were taught to dress modestly. Even though the show was canceled in 2015, Jim Bob has always come across as a wholesome man.

More bad news has come out of the Duggar camp as poll results from the Arkansas Secretary of State’s website showed that Jim Bob lost his primary race by receiving only 15% of the vote. Jim Bob was up against a former city council member and a retired U.S. Navy captain for the Arkansas Senate seat. In the end, Colby Fulfer won with over 46% of the public’s vote, with Steve Unger winning 36% of the vote. The two will now face off in a primary run-off, which will take place on January 11. With only 456 votes, Jim Bob was defeated for his chance on the Republican ticket. The seat opened up after Senator Lance Eads resigned.

Jim Bob previously served one term in the Arkansas House. At the time, his platform was his strict conservative values as he often spoke out against gay rights. The election came only days after Josh was found guilty in his federal trial of receiving and possessing child pornography. Josh is looking at 20 years behind bars for each count, along with a $250,000 fine. He will now be sentenced in four months.

After his political defeat, Jim Bob spoke out as he thanked everyone who voted for him. The patriarch shared that he was honored to have worked with great people during his short campaign. There is no doubt that it has been a difficult season for the Duggars, but Jim Bob revealed he was grateful for a chance to throw his hat into the ring, noting that he loves the United States and his Northwest Arkansas community. Sadly, after Josh’s guilty verdict, it perhaps wasn’t the time for the 19 Kids and Counting star to fund and run a campaign.
