Casting By chronicles the massive contributions of little-known casting director Marion Dougherty, who began her career in Hollywood during the ’40s. When she began sending actors to meet with directors and producers, the term casting director did not even exist. Three decades later in the ’70s, Marion finally gets her due recognition when Hollywood began crediting casting directors. Along with several other casting directors, filmmakers, and movie stars, Lithgow pays tribute to Dougherty’s career.
