Very few action stars are as dedicated to their craft as Keanu Reeves. A veteran with genre classics such as Point Break, Speed, and The Matrix under his belt, the actor is famous for always going to extra mile and tackling a majority of his own stunts during production. For the 2014 film, John Wick, Reeves said he did 90 percent of the work himself, mastering the “gun-fu” techniques directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch designed.

Reeves trains very hard so he can give his fans an authentic, thrilling experience when they settle in to watch one of his movies. John Wick raised the bar for what audiences expect from the star, so anticipation is sky high for the sequel, John Wick: Chapter Two. If a video of Reeves preparing for the followup is any indication (watch it above), viewers are going to be in for quite a treat when the film hits theaters in 2017.

Coming courtesy of YouTube user Taran Tactical, the aptly-titled clip “Keanu shredding” shows the actor displaying lethal abilities with a variety of firearms. There isn’t a whole lot to dissect in the brief 37 seconds, but it does provide a nice tease for what the filmmakers have in store for John Wick 2. As he was in the original, Reeves is more than capable of squaring off against swarms of villains trying to track him down.

The first John Wick stood out due to the construction of its action sequences, most notably the Red Circle night club scene where John Wick went after Iosef Tarasov. As stuntmen themselves, Stahelski and Leitch know what it takes to deliver something truly spectacular, limiting the use of quick edits and shaky cam so viewers could fully appreciate the extent of the choreography. Even though Stahelski is helming the sequel solo, there’s no reason why fans shouldn’t expect more of the same in John Wick: Chapter Two. It’ll be a challenge for the team to top what they accomplished the first time around, but this group seems more than up for the challenge.

That there should be amazing action in a John Wick sequel is all but a given. The larger question is if the story itself will stand on its own and prove worthwhile. The original film was a self-contained narrative, seemingly ending John’s revenge quest on a high note. However, there’s still much of the assassin underworld left to explore, and new cast additions like Laurence Fisburne and Common should add a lot to the proceedings. It’s been Stahelski’s intention all along to tell another character-driven narrative that connects with viewers emotionally, which is a positive sign.

All signs are pointing to John Wick 2 being just as entertaining as the first, featuring more of the intriguing world-building and exciting action that made the initial chapter a cult hit. It’s also worth remembering that Reeves is an actor who rarely does sequels to his films, so there must have been something there to convince him that John Wick had what it took to make a great franchise and return. Time will tell, of course, but it seems like John Wick will be back with a vengeance.
