Jojos Bizarre Adventure The Strongest Fighter in the Manga (So Far)

For a series that’s been going on for over 30 years, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has had no shortage of extremely powerful characters, both hero and villain alike. But throughout each of Jojo’s eight parts, which character is the absolute strongest?

Comparing the abilities of Jojo characters isn’t always straightforward, simply because of how diverse Stand abilities can be. In general, Stands are the most powerful type of ability seen, so characters from parts 1 and 2, before Stands existed, are out. Raw power is often at the disposal of Jojo’s protagonists, with Stands like Jotaro’s Star Platinum and Josuke’s Shining Diamond being stand-outs. Other factors that affect the power of a Stand are its attacking range, with high-power Stands usually being limited to close-range fighting, and more nebulous abilities that don’t have immediate combat usage, but could provide an advantage in certain battle scenarios. While some of them can be quite powerful in the right hands, or as part of a team, most of these less clearly defined abilities are a poor fit for fighting.

Stands are evaluated on several different canonical axes to accommodate these differences, with power just one of the dimensions measured. Ranked from A to E, these stats include Power, Speed, Stamina, Range, Precision, and Potential – the Stand’s ability to grow stronger over time. Since “Potential” is one of the measured aspects, it’s impossible for a single stand to have a perfect score in all areas, as a Stand that’s reached its maximum power will see its potential decrease as a result.

In terms of power alone, there are 25 unique Stands across all 8 parts which are ranked “A,” mostly belonging to major villains such as DIO, or protagonists like Jotaro and Josuke. There are a handful of stands which have A ranks in 5 of the 6 categories: Jotaro’s Star Platinum and Funny Valentine’s Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap have a C in range, while Chili Pepper from part 4 and Kiss from part 6 are rated with a C in precision, but A’s in all other categories. Some Stands can’t be evaluated on these axes, such as those with infinite range, or those which are completely unable to deal damage. Giorno’s Golden Wind Requiem, for example, is so unusual that it’s impossible to evaluate on the same scale as any other existing Stand.

With outliers like Golden Wind Requiem removed, there’s a solid argument that Star Platinum is not only the first Stand to appear in the series, but the strongest in a fight as well. Star Platinum’s abilities have been evaluated on the chart at several different points based on Jotaro’s age, where it’s slightly less powerful in part 6 than in earlier iterations. Star Platinum’s abilities are also boosted by the fact that Jotaro is a tough, skilled fighter on his own, even without a Stand, which is not something that can be said for some of the other highly rated Stands. For a short-range Stand, the user’s ability to fight is particularly important, so this combination of physical ability and Stand ability undoubtedly makes Jotaro in his prime the most dangerous Stand user in all of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
