Juggernaut vs Thor Whod Win in the Comics

Thor and Juggernaut are two of Marvel’s top-tier characters in terms of sheer strength, but if who would win if these two powerhouses came to blows? Could Cain Marko topple the God of Thunder, or would the mighty Thor finally stop the unstoppable Juggernaut?

While he was originally one of the X-Men’s toughest villains, Juggernaut has recently taken on a more heroic role in Marvel Comics. However, his newfound heroism hasn’t diminished his strength one bit. Imbued with the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, a deity of destruction, Juggernaut is invulnerable to almost any physical attack, and once he builds up momentum, nothing can stand in his way. In addition, Juggernaut’s magic healing factor rivals even Wolverine’s, and he’s strong enough to trade blows with the Hulk and live to tell the tale. However, Marko isn’t the only one with a little magic on his side.

The son of Odin and current king of Asgard, Thor is one of those characters who seems to be constantly getting stronger. The God of Thunder is consistently mentioned as a contender for the strongest Avenger in Marvel’s universe, and for good reason. Thor is one of the few beings strong enough to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Thanos and the Hulk, and the ability to fly and summon storms of lightning at will makes him a very versatile combatant. In Donny Cates’ ongoing Thor series, the God of Thunder was able to defeat both Galactus and his new villain Black Winter single handedly, though he did have a bit of a buff thanks to the Power Cosmic. With or without a power increase, however, Thor’s greatest weapon will always be his trusty hammer, Mjolnir, forged from magical Uru metal and enchanted so it can only be wielded by one who is worthy. Clearly Thor has a lot going for him, but is it enough to take on the Juggernaut?

With access to enhancements like the Power Cosmic and the Odinforce, Thor would beat Juggernaut pretty handily, but his base form is a different story. In their normal states, Juggernaut and Thor are pretty evenly matched in terms of brute strength. However, Juggernaut has a definitive advantage with his virtually unlimited stamina. As mighty as Thor is, battling Juggernaut would surely be taxing, so he wouldn’t be able to fend Cain off indefinitely. Fortunately, as long as he has Mjolnir, he won’t need to. When the two faced each other in the past, Thor beat Juggernaut by generating an anti-magic whirlwind with his hammer, effectively removing Cain’s magical invulnerability. Mjolnir’s enchantment also makes it an immoveable object – the perfect counter to an unstoppable force like the Juggernaut. Factor in Thor’s centuries of combat experience and it seems the asgardian has Marko all but outclassed.

Thor and Juggernaut have a surprising amount in common, with both being entities of immense strength further augmented by magic. However, putting the two side by side, it’s clear that Thor has a more impressive arsenal of abilities, meaning this is one fight Juggernaut probably isn’t going to win.
