Jurassic World Dominion Features Dinosaur Discovered Just 2 Years Ago

Jurassic World: Dominion co-writer/director Colin Trevorrow has revealed the upcoming installment will feature a recently discovered dinosaur. Exact plot details regarding the latest chapter in the Michael Crichton-based series are currently unknown, though it was recently revealed that the film would be set four years after its predecessor. Fallen Kingdom ended with a large portion of cloned dinosaurs being unleashed to the mainland and humans come to terms with a new world of coexisting with the creatures.

Though it was a box office success and held some promise, the reception to Fallen Kingdom wasn’t the brightest from critics or audiences. That being said, the film’s conclusion of people and dinos having to find a way to live together has left many waiting eagerly for the arrival of Dominion to see how it resolves this tension. While Trevorrow is still keeping generally mum on details surrounding the film, it sounds like the roster of dinosaurs will be expanding for the threequel.

As Trevorrow and Universal prepare for the release of a special five-minute preview attached to IMAX screenings of F9, the director spoke with Empire Online about the upcoming dinosaur blockbuster. While offering some new details regarding the plot of Dominion, Trevorrow also revealed the film will include a dinosaur only recently discovered by archaeologists. Check out what Trevorrow had to say below:

“We have our first feathered dinosaur, the Oviraptor. I feel like that’s going to be a bit of a headline for those who care about paleontological accuracy. Another one [with feathers], which is the one in the picture, is the Moros intrepidus. That one showed up maybe two years ago. It probably popped up into your feed, that people found a tiny, T-Rex-like feathered dinosaur. And that was one of the quickest turnarounds that we’ve had, from discovery to putting it on screen.”

With genetic cloning now shut down after the events of Fallen Kingdom, there’s been an air of speculation regarding what dinosaurs will be seen in Dominion and just how they’ll be seen. Though a cute photo of a baby lystrosaurus indicated the arrivals of a new creatures for the threequel, this latest revelation confirms that the film will feature even more species unknown to the non-science-studying public. Given the first two installments in the Jurassic World franchise were so focused around the concept of genetic cloning and creating bigger and better dinosaurs mixing DNAs together, it’s a welcome surprise to see an actual dinosaur yet to be put to screen confirmed for the film.

With a year left until the arrival of Jurassic World: Dominion, fan theories and questions are only going to continue to permeate regarding just how it will wrap the Jurassic World trilogy while also establishing the new era producer Frank Marshall promised for the franchise. In the meantime, audiences can look forward to the extended trailer attached to IMAX screenings of F9: The Fast Saga later this month.
