New behind-the-scenes photos from Zack Snyder’s Justice League reveal the Snyder Cut’s scrapped John Stewart Green Lantern appearance. Nearly four years after Warner Bros. released a version of Justice League in theaters, HBO Max debuted the long-awaited Snyder Cut of the film. The four-hour R-rated version of the movie is what director Zack Snyder wanted to release prior to walking away from the project. He was even given the chance to do some additional photography to add Martian Manhunter and the Knightmare epilogue, but there was one aspect of his vision that wasn’t included.

Snyder has made it clear that the original plan for Zack Snyder’s Justice League included an appearance by the John Stewart version of Green Lantern. He secretly cast Wayne T. Carr to play Green Lantern and filmed scenes with the actor. John Stewart’s appearance would’ve come at the end of Justice League, with him and Kilowog appearing to Bruce Wayne. Warner Bros.’ refusal to allow this in the movie resulted in Snyder pivoting to have Martian Manhunter at the end. As more information on the scrapped scene has come to light, fans have become eager to see it in some form.

The finished version of the Green Lantern scene is unlikely to see the light of the day at this point, but Snyder and Carr are now doing their part to tease fans with what could’ve been. The actor shared a BTS photo of him in a motion-capture suit in front of a green screen when he filmed the Justice League cameo. After Carr’s photo, Snyder shared another image on his Vero account that highlights how the scene was shot in the director’s driveway during the coronavirus pandemic. Snyder replied to fans in the comments asking if the scene will be released by saying, “I don’t think so, but I have a rad still.” For now, fans only have these BTS photos.

More than a month after the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, photos like these are why the movie continues to be discussed by its fans. It also gives those same fans a cool look at how creative Snyder had to get to complete some portions of the Snyder Cut. Even though the John Stewart Green Lantern scene wasn’t included, filming it in a driveway shows how badly Snyder wanted the scene. Unfortunately for him, Carr, and fans, WB blocked the inclusion of this scene because they have plans for John Stewart and want to introduce him first.

Now that fans have seen the BTS images of John Stewart’s appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the passionate fanbase is rallying behind another hashtag. They successfully campaigned to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut and some still hope that WB will #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. In the meantime, they now want the studio to let Snyder #ReleaseTheGreenLanternScene. Since that doesn’t sound likely even by Snyder’s own admission, perhaps he’ll get to share the rad still of John Stewart Green Lantern in Zack Snyder’s Justice League at some point.
