Kingdoms of Amalur ReReckoning Gets Native 4K Patch On PS5

Patch notes for Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning’s Update 1.08 revealed that PlayStation 5 players now have access to native 4K resolution. Approximately two years after purchasing the IP, THQ Nordic released a remastered version Kingdoms of Amalur on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.

Though the original title arguably appeared ahead of its time at release in February 2012, the remaster makes it seem a relic from a bygone era. Notably, many of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning’s gameplay systems have not held up very well. The graphics and lengthy loading times also failed to age with grace, even with a new coat of paint offering a fair few enhancements. Still, it is an experience worth exploring for newcomers; fans may find themselves eager to revisit the gorgeous and magical world of Amalur, too.

As relayed by MP1st, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning developer Kaiko deployed Update 1.08 on Monday, June 21. The latest patch introduced unspecified graphical fixes and ushered in improvements to stability; yet, native 4K resolution support on PS5 constitutes the most notable of changes. Update 1.08 also ironed out issues related to broken Quests, controller sensitivity, and a Loremaster Achievement/Trophy glitch.

Kaiko’s continued support of the remaster is rather impressive. In addition to continuously improving Kingdoms of Amalur’s PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions, the studio recently brought the remaster to Nintendo Switch hardware. The Switch iteration holds promise of its own, particularly with regards to portability. However, Kingdoms of Amalur on Switch is prone to setbacks that show the role-playing title’s age from time to time.

In reviving the action-RPG, THQ Nordic promised to do more than remaster the original adventure. The publisher additionally announced plans to release a new story expansion, Fatesworn, sometime in 2021. As of writing, the content still lacks a firm due date, but fans can expect the DLC to introduce over five hours of previously unseen gameplay. Very few details are known about the seemingly ambitious add-on, though leaks suggest that, in addition to a fresh narrative-driven adventure, Fatesworn will unleash several new weapons, including Scepters, Staves, Daggers, Swords, Bows, and Faeblades. When THQ Nordic intends to share the information itself presently remains unknown.
