A romance eBook titled Kissing the Coronavirus is being hailed as “a masterwork of bad erotica.”

Written by M.J. Edwards, Kissing the Coronavirus was released on April 22, just a month after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced shutdowns worldwide. The 16-page book tells the story of Dr. Alexa Ashingtonford, a scientist working to find a cure for the virus. She begins falling in love with test tubes full of the virus, and when her fellow scientist takes a sample and becomes COVID-19 — personified as a green man with endowed physical attributes — a sexual relationship ensues.

Since its release, there have been interesting reactions to the story, particularly from ParadoxicallyItWas on Reddit. Calling it the “the best bad erotica I have ever read” — as well as giving detailed direct quotes — they mentioned the book’s merits, particularly Alex’s moral dilemma when she realizes she had the virus asymptomatically and exposed her team, many of which died. “This heartbreaking little moment right here is the lesson,” ParadoxicallyItWas added.

In addition, readers on Goodreads had their own thoughts about the eBook. Described as “a steamy tale about forbidden love and dark desires come to life,” Kissing the Coronavirus is currently rated 2.44 stars out of five, with over half of the 685 raters giving it only one star. A few reviewers saw the story as satire and a funny take on the subject, while others questioned why it was published in the first place.
