Warning: SPOILERS for La Brea season 1

NBC’s La Brea season 2 is set up for a variety of interesting revelations and developments stemming from the fantastic season 1 and season finale full of cliffhangers. The show is a sci-fi series chronicling the story of a massive sinkhole under the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles opening and enveloping survivors thrusting them into the primitive and dangerous world of 10,000BC. The show features a family divided by the event with Eve (Natalie Zea) and son, Josh (Josh Harris), finding themselves in a land unknown inside the sinkhole while Gavin (Eoin Macken) and their daughter, Izzy (Zyra Gorecki), left in modern-day LA.

Season 1 ended with several cliffhangers that can play a major role in La Brea season 2. Josh, Riley, and Lily have jumped into a new place and period. Gavin and Izzy have gone into a sinkhole in Seattle in search of their loved ones only to find themselves in the wrong place at the right time. Isaiah is on his way to the 1980s and audiences got confirmation that Isaiah’s real name is Gavin, importantly connecting the visions Gavin has throughout the series as his younger version’s experience.

La Brea found itself in a precarious position upon its initial filming and release, as the pilot was filmed in March of 2020, which for many countries marked the beginning of lockdowns as a result of the Covid pandemic. However, this may benefit the show in the long run, as it’s given creators longer to work on the La Brea season 2 story, refine the characters, and plan an appropriate release date. Here’s everything we know about La Brea season 2 so far.

What La Brea Season 2’s Story Could Be About

Although not too much of the storyline has been revealed about the La Brea season 2 story, showrunner David Appelbaum, also a writer/producer on The Enemy Within, has confirmed the show is looking to play with the timeline as much as possible, meaning there may be an overlap of Gavin and Isaiah on the horizon. There is also likely a new time and place in store for Josh, all while Gavin and Izzy explore 10,000BC Seattle while searching for their displaced family throughout La Brea season 2. Regarding Aldridge leading Scott to a rather modern-looking tower at the end of season 1, Appelbaum is on record saying they will be “finding themselves in a world completely different from anything we’ve seen on the show so far.”

Though nothing is officially confirmed, there are several characters that showrunners and writers have publicly discussed that viewers can expect to see in the La Brea season 2 cast. Natalie Zea’s Eve Harris, Eoin Macken’s Gavin Harris, Zyra Gorecki’s Izzy Harris, and Jack Martin’s Josh Harris represent the family the show is based around and almost a sure-fire squad to return. Based on storylines developed, the La Brea season 2 cast will likely also feature Chiké Okonkwo’s Ty Coleman, Veronica St. Clair’s Riley Velez, and fan-favorite Rohan Mirchandaney’s Scott Israni.

La Brea Season 2 Filming Locations

While the pandemic did play a role in the filming of La Brea season 1 – with the pilot being shot in Los Angeles in March of 2020 and the rest of the season moving to Melbourne, Australia – Appelbaum is on record as appreciating the “beautiful natural terrain that suits the environment of 10,000 BC.” La Brea’s season 2 filming locations are thus expected to remain in Australia due to the success and opportunity discovered from the production of season 1.
