As the year goes on, hype and anticipation surrounding the release of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will surely build. Star Wars fans have been blessed with a series of video games in recent years, from the two entries in the Star Wars: Battlefront series to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. And with the team over at TT Games working hard to deliver as good an experience as possible, the latest LEGO title is shaping up to be something pretty special.

The prequel trilogy and original trilogy were both brought to life in 2007’s Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. When the newer game releases, which is expected to be at some point in 2021, many characters are set to get a redesign that could be quite interesting.

10 Luke Skywalker

The trailer for the game shows off the newest incarnation of Luke Skywalker during his original trilogy days. The Complete Saga previously had the young Jedi with blonde hair and a rather plain white top. But things have been altered for the 2021 title, with Luke’s hair now similar to how it was during the original trilogy and his outfit resembling his farmboy attire.

Luke’s hair is also darkened for when he’s training with Yoda during The Empire Strikes Back, while he’s been given new costumes for pretty much every scene he’s in. It’ll also be great to play as Luke when he’s a Jedi master, with that figure likely to look completely different – just like how it was during the movies.

9 Darth Vader

For many years, the character of Darth Vader was the same when it came to LEGO. But the team over there decided to give him a redesign back in 2014 and that means fans can expect to be going up against a shinier, more accurate version of the Sith Lord.

Vader is likely to be involved in many of the original trilogy missions, just like he was during The Complete Saga. And, with dialogue promised, it’ll be interesting to see how funny or serious TT Games decide to go. As a bad guy, the worst in the entire galaxy, he’s got to have a bit of swagger about him. So slapstick jokes, when it comes to Vader, isn’t necessarily the right route to go down.

8 Anakin Skywalker

Anakin Skywalker is another character who LEGO is altering for their 2021 game. As the Chosen One himself, plenty of fans will want to step into the dark robes of Hayden Christensen’s character. And that’s just as well, because the trailer shows he’s already been upgraded.

Anakin’s clothing is more detailed during The Phantom Menace levels, his hairstyle has been tweaked for the Attack of the Clones missions and, when it comes to Revenge of the Sith and his lightsaber duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, he’s been given terrifying glowing yellow eyes. That’s just as well because the Anakin from the Complete Saga didn’t really look anything like its movie counterpart, so this change is likely to be well-received.

7 Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi was given flat long orange hair and a matching beard during The Complete Saga, as well as Lego Star Wars: Episodes 1-3. And TT Games have decided to alter with the character for their newer game, making him look more like he does during the prequels.

Kenobi has a smarter haircut, just like he does in Revenge of the Sith, while his robes are more detailed as well. He’s likely to be another popular choice for fans to play with given he’s one of the best characters within the whole franchise. And the chance to wield his famous blue lightsaber, taking parts in battles against the likes of Anakin, Count Dooku and Darth Maul, certainly sounds exciting.

6 Palpatine

During the older LEGO games, Sheev Palpatine had a grey, rather bland-looking face. That’s somewhat ironic given that’s how he looked during 2019’s Rise of Skywalker when he returns from the dead. And Disney is poised to press the upgrade button on his character, too, at least if the teaser trailer released last year is anything to go by.

Palpatine’s face will be uglier than before, which is the right decision given how he literally fries himself with Force lightning. And the eyes look far more menacing, too, like they do during both the prequels and original trilogies. As one of the most iconic Star Wars villains, it’s expected many fans will jump at the chance to play as the Sith Lord. Especially if you’re capable of firing Force lightning and using a lightsaber at the same time…

5 Darth Maul

Sticking with Star Wars villains, it’s now time to talk about Darth Maul. During the 2007 LEGO game, it was decided to keep the Sith Lord with his hood up for the final duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn. This, presumably, was because Maul would have looked pretty strange due to the lack of horns. But, in the years since, a new variant of the conflicted antihero has been released.

So that means this Maul will look closer to how he did during the prequels, with red horns and bright, glowing yellow eyes. Fans won’t be able to stop him from cutting down Qui-Gon, unfortunately. Although that said, it’ll be better to see Maul do his evil deed looking just like he does from the source material.

4 Han Solo

Han Solo is one of Star Wars’ biggest poster boys, having appeared in all three of the original trilogy movies as well as The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker. He’s a beloved character due to his unparalleled confidence, which can definitely be mistaken for arrogance at times. And he’s another individual getting a makeover when compared to The Complete Saga.

Trailer footage shows Han will have longer, wavier hair more accurate to the hairdo he sported during A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Han is likely to be another popular character within the game, especially if he adopts the same swagger he does during the movies.

3 C-3PO

During the older Star Wars game, C-3PO looked rather pale as though he’d indulged in too many death sticks and regretted that decision. So, obviously, his appearance is set to change.

The trailer for The Skywalker Saga shows everybody’s favorite droid sporting a more golden look, in line with how he appeared during the original and sequel trilogies. Obviously, he’s silver during the events of Attack of the Clones, so it’ll be interesting to see whether that’s brought to life or whether TT Games decides to keep things the same to avoid any confusion.

2 Chewbacca

Chewbacca is another beloved character from a galaxy far, far away and with good reason, too. He courageously helps Yoda escape Kashyyyk during Revenge of the Sith, aids the Rebel Alliance during the first Star Wars trilogy, and also helped the Resistance overthrow the First Order during the sequels, too.

In the Complete Saga, he definitely looks like a melted pot of plastic. But the 2021 game shows him looking drastically better, in a change many fans will welcome.

1 General Grievous

General Grievous is another popular Star Wars villain, despite only appearing in Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars. For a good while, LEGO struggled to give the cyborg an accurate look. But they’ve struck gold in recent years and The Skywalker Saga will benefit from that.

Grievous will have his yellow eyes, making him a far more menacing presence. And he’ll also have a better headpiece, rather than the weird-looking thing he sported during The Complete Saga. Let’s just hope that, if used as a playable character, he’s able to wield all four lightsabers at once – giving players an extra edge on the battlefield.
