A celebrity-filled spin-off of RuPaul’s Drag Race called RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race is headed to VH1 in 2020. The new version of the Emmy-winning reality competition show will feature drag queen favorites from seasons past and a cast of celebrities who will be competing for prize money to be donated to a charity of their choosing.

RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race does not have an air date yet. The show is keeping the names of the celebrity guests under wraps, but many Drag Race favorites are reportedly returning to sissy that walk on the runway. THR announced that Alyssa Edwards, Asia O’Hara, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Monique Heart, Nina West, Trinity the Tuck, Trixie Mattel and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo are all set to appear on the new version of the series. In each episode, three celebrities will undergo a drag transformation with the help of the aforementioned drag queens. Now, in its 12th regular season, Drag Race has welcomed spin-offs like Drag Race UK, Drag Race Thailand, Drag Race Canada, and Drag Race: All Stars, which will air its 5th season on Showtime in June. Past guest appearances of the regular season have included such A-Listers as Lady Gaga, Lisa Kudrow, Christina Aguilera, and Joel McHale.

Since the show has garnered big names as judges in the past, audiences are expecting some exciting celebrity contestants. But being a drag queen is no easy task. Will high-profile stars want to put lash glue on their eyes, get their faces “beat” and walk in heels for a drag makeover? A big named celebrity would really have to have a passion for drag to tuck, pluck and push through the pain of wig glue removal. We’ve compiled a list of celebrities who we think have what it takes to compete on the four-episode spin-off!

Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer

The ladies of this comedy duo have been long-time fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race. These campy, hilarious comediennes are the perfect fit for the show’s challenges. They have the comedic chops to win big and their partnership during the production of their TV show Broad City proves that they are great team players. Plus RuPaul himself appeared on Broad City for several episodes. The conversation around drag has evolved greatly over the past few years. It’s not just for gay, cis men. Heterosexual women are often participating in the drag world. And if there is anyone who can do camp, it is these two broads

Andrew Garfield

A self-proclaimed super fan of the show, Andrew Garfield would be a great addition to the cast. It’s always fun to see a celebrity guest judge who really loves drag. To see a famous superfan compete is the pure joy we want to experience! Plus… he probably looks VERY pretty in a wig and make-up. Our Spidey-senses are already tingling at the thought.

Miley Cyrus

Pictures of the pop sensation fan-girling over season 9 contenders Shea Coulee and Sasha Velour went viral in 2017. The photos show Cyrus seeing the drag queens, pointing at them with her jaw-dropped, and running toward them with stars in her eyes. She has been an avid fan of “the dolls” (a nickname for RuPaul’s Drag Race queens) for years. She has already been a guest judge on the show so she could come into the competition like a wrecking ball. Wait… if she did a wrecking ball look for the runway that would truly be a gag. Or a Hannah Montana reveal where she seems like one character and then a quick wig snatch turns her into another!? We’re not sure who wants Miley on this show more: Miley or us.

Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris is no stranger to the world of drag. He starred in the 2014 Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, for which he won a Tony Award. The list of popular gay male celebrities, outside of the drag world, is slim. It would be very plausible to see someone like Harris on the show. And maybe there will be a singing challenge! We hope he dusts off that wig in a box.

John Mulaney

John Mulaney is primed and ready to strut down the runway. He is silly, stunning and up for anything! Mulaney and Nick Kroll even had Bob the Drag Queen appear as a guest in their Broadway show Oh, Hello!, shortly after Bob won season 8 of Drag Race. This straight man needs to block out those eyebrows and see if he lives up to the title of his most recent Netflix Special: Kid Gorgeous.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Already a queen in her own right, this fierce politician will appear as a guest judge on the current season of Drag Race. Ocasio-Cortez is a student of Drag Race and she continues to prove that she truly understands the assignment. Her outfit for the promo of her guest judging episode is drag-tastic, sparkly and campy. Her response to conservative backlash about being on the show was that they can “go back to Party City”, a fan favorite line from the fourth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It’s time to see this Democrat legi-SLAY-te.

Leslie Jones

“She already done had horses!” Jones’ hysterical ad-lib, when she appeared as a guest judge on season 12, only makes us want to see her have more screen time. The former Saturday Night Live star quickly became one of the greatest judges in the show’s history when she pulled out her cellphone to tape RuPaul as the show was being filmed. Everything about her witnessing the Drag Race runway was radiant and delightful. We need to see her in full beat cracking us up on the main stage and the Werk Room!

Daniel Franzese

The Mean Girls star and stand-up comedian is another guest judge on season 12 of Drag Race. Franzese proved his stage skills when he belted out Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” in the Mean Girls movie. It is time to see what talents he can display on the main stage of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Franzese is not only a fan of the show, but he has also performed at DragCon more than once. He is exactly the kind of gay icon we want to see sashaying around the stage with a huge wig. (Whispered) We hear his hair is so big because its full of secrets.

Kate McKinnon

It’s no secret that Saturday Night Live loves Drag Race. When RuPaul was the host of the show this season, he did promotional scenes with McKinnon and you can see the excitement in her eyes. McKinnon is charming, hysterical, over-the-top when she needs to be, and a die-hard Drag Race fan. If you had to put money on any of the celebrities on this list, this is the one to bet on winning Drag Race. She has proven she can do anything, from impressions to serious roles on the big screen. Plus its always nice to see some gay female representation on a queer TV show!

Sally Jessy Raphael

The talk show host has been championing Drag Race long before it was mainstream. In 2014 she even rode a scooter around New York City with season 5 winner Jinx Monsoon. She already has an iconic look with those glasses! Why not give her another accessory? Perhaps… a crown!

Dame Judi Dench

LGBTQ Stars & Allies We Would Love to See as Contestants on RuPauls Celebrity Drag Race

After seeing her performance in Cats, it is beyond clear that Judi Dench understands drag. She put on a CGI suit and pretended to be a singing feline who stretches her leg above her head while purring. She’s ready to compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Plus, she sent flowers to Bianca Del Rio for her performance in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie on The West End. Judi gets it.

Adele

LGBTQ Stars & Allies We Would Love to See as Contestants on RuPauls Celebrity Drag Race

The dynamic and beloved singer made an appearance at a New York City gay bar last year with Jennifer Lawrence to catch a local drag show! Adele and Lawrence surprised the drag queen working in the bar and even competed in fun bar games. The queen performing that night, Brita, went on to be part of the current season of Drag Race. It’s time that we make Adele start turning tables from audience member to Drag superstar.

Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang

These two rising stars not only love RuPaul’s Drag Race, but they also used to recap it for their popular podcast Las Culturistas. Yang, the first Asian-American, first openly gay male and first “trade daddy” to appear as a cast member on SNL has been performing incredibly funny drag-adjacent comedy for years. Rogers, who recently appeared as the guest on RuPaul’s podcast What’s the Tee, is the co-creator of Gayme Show, which challenges heterosexual men to become “Queen of the Straights.” The duo used to perform in NYC as a lip-sync team known as SLUCK. The routine was ridiculously funny and wildly stupid. As someone who has performed with them in Brooklyn basements, I can confidently say there is no one better suited for the series. Crown these pop culture clowns.

RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race does not have an official air date yet, but it’s expected to premiere sometime in 2020. Start your engines and may the best celebrity playing for charity… win!
