Lilo & Stitch 10 Scenes The Prove David Was The Best Male Disney Character

Disney is well known for its royal princes and male characters that sweep princesses off their feet. While they may have dazzling blue eyes, a huge castle, David (Jason Scott Lee) from Lilo & Stitch wipes the floor with them. He may not come from royalty or an impressive background but he’s good of heart and that in itself makes him the best Disney character.

Fans are introduced to David in the 2002 movie, Lilo & Stitch, and he makes his return in the sequels. Fans quickly fell for his kind demeanor and his understanding when it came to Nani (Tia Carrere) and her reason for not dating him. Throughout the movies, many scenes prove David to be more than worthy of winning over fans’ hearts.

10 His Fire Show

The first time audiences get to see David is at his job. The scene itself is comical yet fun to watch. It’s not every day that a male Disney character has such a cool job and hobby. Seeing as the movie and characters are set in Hawaii, David is a fire twirler or fire dancer.

He shows his impressive skills maneuvering a stick with flames on both ends. It’s a dazzling spectacle that quickly turns comical. When using an accelerant to blow on the flame, he accidentally sets part of the roof – and himself – on fire. He’s cool about it.

David is often liked by fans for being respectful. Only moments after his fire show, he talks to Nani and asks her out. But Nani explains she can’t date right now. Her main priority is Lilo (Daveigh Chase) and keeping her safe from social workers.

The best part is that David is understanding of her situation. He doesn’t try to pressure her about it and knows his day will come eventually. Lilo gives him some words of reassurance saying Nani likes his butt and fancy hair.

David has been around for long enough to care for Lilo as his own family. After their joyous moment surfing, Stitch (Chris Sanders) is almost kidnapped and dragged under the ocean. In an attempt to escape, he brings down Lilo with him. It’s a heroic deed when David swims to where Nani is and asks what happened.

He doesn’t hesitate to dive under to go help rescue Lilo and later Stitch as well and brings him to shore. While most Disney male characters show their own form of heroics, David’s is second nature when it comes to Lilo.

6 Helped Nani Find A Job

One of the rules that the social worker gave Nani was that she needed a job to show that she can provide for Lilo. She has no luck finding one, though. David comes pounding on the door as soon as he found her an opportunity. He explains that a local in town needs help in his store but tells her to hurry.

David may have a crush on Nani but it’s not the reason why he helps her so much. He truly cares for her and Lilo’s well-being. He knows that Lilo belongs with her sister, not in the foster system.

5 Plays & Treat Lilo Like His Own

During the beach montage, David shows why he’s such a great male character. To start he’s not afraid of the responsibility of taking care of Lilo if he dates Nani. Regardless, he sees Lilo as his own family even if they stayed friends. In the montage, he picks up Lilo to sit on his surfboard and takes her for a ride along the waves.

There’s even a heartwarming moment where he and Nani are swinging Lilo back and forth between them. Almost like parents. They even help build her a sandcastle with her buried under it. In the sequel, he accompanies Nani to watch Lilo in her big hula recital to show support. Ohana means family.

In the sequel, the aliens have become residents of the town and often hang out with Nani, David, Lilo, and Stitch. Nani is trying to change things around and spends more time as a family. Meaning a movie night, where she makes an elaborate spread of alien-inspired snacks.

Everyone thinks it’s a bit bizarre but David tries to compliment her efforts. He later tries to ask her out but realizes she’s asleep. Pleakley (David McDonald) tries to convince David that things are boring in their relationship. But David says that Nani’s tired and understands her falling asleep.

Pleakley manages to get inside David’s head that he needs to spice up his and Nani’s relationship, before it fizzles. Two main comical scenes show David’s bashfulness when he tries. The first is when Pleakley tries to convince Nani that David’s flirting. David doesn’t think it’s a good idea, and knows Nani is smarter than that.

The second occurs later on when he makes an impromptu visit to the house wearing a matador outfit. He’s not very sure of himself as he tells Nani that she’s not the only fish in the sea. At least he tries to make things work.

2 Tries To Comfort Nani After The Social Worker Visits

Nani’s social worker has a way of keeping his eye on everything. He even witnesses Lilo almost drowning in the ocean which doesn’t sit well with him. Nani passes Lilo to David while she talks to him. David asks Nani if there’s anything he can do to help.

It’s a considerate thing to do seeing as David has done many things to try and keep Nani and Lilo together. David is always Nani’s shoulder to cry on.

1 Accepts The Aliens

By the end of the first movie, all the aliens and Stitch have decided to stop fighting… and to stop trying to arrest Stitch to take him back home!

Comically enough, they’re all stuck on a broken-down ship in the ocean. David was surfing on his board during it all, and Lilo asks David if he can give them a ride to shore. While somewhat confused, he agrees and says he’ll need to take two trips. He even tells Stitch that outer space has good surfing. It’s nice to know that David isn’t shocked or rejecting the group of aliens and instead helps them.
