Live Action Mulan Movie Releases Stunning New Poster For Disney

Disney+ has unveiled a gorgeous new poster for its live-action Mulan. Although the film was originally slated for a theatrical release on July 24, delays and uncertainty due to COVID-19 eventually pushed Disney to move Mulan to its new streaming service instead. As such, Mulan is due to premiere on Disney+ on September 4.

The newest Mulan film is a live-action remake of the 1998 original, where the eponymous character enlists in the Chinese army in place of her aging father. Although released trailers for Mulan show that the remake will indeed include her adventure in the army, there are key differences between the remake and the animated film. For instance, the character of Li Shang is notably absent from the remake, much to the chagrin of some fans; instead, Mulan’s new love interest is now a man named Chen Honghui. While it remains to be seen what other changes will be made between the original and the remake, other differences include the addition of a new villain and the exclusion of Mushu in the newest version of Mulan.

A recently released tweet from Walt Disney Studios’ Twitter account depicts a brand new poster promoting Mulan. In the poster, Mulan is dressed in a soldier’s outfit and holding a sword. A bird is shown in the white background of the poster, which is likely a nod to Xian Lang, a witch who both has the ability to transform into a bird of prey and acts as Mulan’s central villain.

The tweet also confirms that Mulan will be released on Disney+ with Premier Access. More specifically, this means fans will have to pay a fee of $29.99 on top of the Disney+ subscription charge if they wish to stream the remake. Disney representatives have confirmed that subscribers who pay the fee will be allowed “continuous access” to the film, essentially allowing those interested to purchase Mulan instead of renting it. That being said, Disney’s decision to charge fans to see Mulan is one that’s still drawn a fair amount of ire.

Although some may be uncertain about shelling out $30 to see Mulan, most fans continue to remain excited about the film. For one, Mulan not only remakes one of Disney’s most beloved animated films but brings a sense of Asian representation that’s rarely seen on the silver screen. As such, while Mulan may have faced its fair share of challenges, it’s still a film that will not only pay homage to the original but will undoubtedly make a name for itself as well.
