Lucifer 10 Most Hated Storylines

The hit FOX fantasy drama, Lucifer, that got picked up by Netflix from its fourth season onwards has been quite the rage in the last few years, catapulting actor Tom Ellis who plays the giddyingly handsome Devil into instant stardom.

However, despite the rather entertaining premise of the series, it has had several narratives that never really made much sense and ended up being criticized by fans. Here are ten such boring and unnecessary storylines that didn’t take the show forward at all.

10 Dan Being A Corrupt Cop

In season 1, one of the secondary plotlines involved Chloe and the shootout at Palmetto Beach case that resulted in another police officer, Malcolm being fatally injured.

It was revealed later that it had been Dan, Chloe’s ex, who had been present in the shadows all along and had shot Malcolm to save Chloe. However, once Malcolm recovered, he managed to keep Dan silent by blackmailing him about the latter’s own corrupt behavior that he wouldn’t want to be made public. The fact that Dan had been a corrupt cop was never really addressed after that, and felt like an afterthought just to bring the Palmetti beach mystery to some random conclusion.

9 Dan & Charlotte

Although actor Kevin Alejandro makes an endearing Dan Espinoza, unfortunately, a lot of the storylines that made little sense in the series involved Detective Douche, in Lucifer’s words.

The potential romance between Dan and Charlotte Richards seemed forced. When Charlotte was being possessed by the Goddess, she had tricked Dan into divulging information by seducing him. Now this at least made sense. But when Charlotte came back to her own self, she once again picked up the threads of the relationship with Dan, making the two a very odd couple. Dan’s grief at Charlotte’s death would have made better sense if the two had been more seriously involved or if they had connected with the audience in the first place.

8 Dan & Ella

Once again, the writers seemed to be at a loose end when it came to Dan, as well as the sprightly forensic expert, Ella Lopez. In season 4, the two hooked up after sharing a kiss and then decided against starting a proper relationship for the sake of professionalism.

The whole thing seemed like a farce since, firstly, the two weren’t very well suited and secondly, the showrunners decided not to pursue that angle after all. It was like they were pairing up some random couples, just in case one hit the bull’s eye. But fans never really shipped this particular pair at all.

7 Maze & Amenadiel

Lucifer 10 Most Hated Storylines

The demon Mazikeen was briefly shown to be sexually involved with Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel, but then ended up rejecting him, even though she probably still harbored feelings for him.

The Maze-Amenadiel storyline didn’t help take the plot forward and the latter soon got into a serioues relationship with Dr. Linda Martin with whom he had a baby in Season 5. However, although Maze had herself walked out of the relationship with the angel, she still felt jealous when he hooked up with Linda. The entire storyline seemed muddled and directionless.

6 Maze Losing Her Mind

Speaking of Maze, the demon seemed to lose her bearings after Lucifer made it plain that he would never return to Hell. She had also ended her potential sexual relationship with Amenadiel who had consequently moved on.

Maze went on a rampage, first teaming up with Marcus Pierce to trick Chloe into falling in love with the lieutenant who was really Cain from the bible. She also agreed to have Lucifer kill Cain to have her with no consideration for Chloe’s feelings. Then later still, she got together with Michael who was plotting to take over Lucifer’s life. It’s true that Maze doesn’t have a soul, a fact she constantly regrets, but she at least has a brain, and a mind, making her erratic behavior hard to explain.

5 Charlotte Teaming Up Amenadiel

Actress Tricia Helfer breathed life into the fiesty and gorgeous Charlotte Richards. But unfortunately, after the Goddess left her body Charlotte’s presence in the series became meandering and meaningless.

She decided that she needed to redeem herself for her earlier indiscretions and for making a vast amount of money by getting a number of violent criminals off the hook. However, noble as the thought might have been, she went from being a scheming lawyer to a spy, zooming around on a bike with Amenadiel. Once again, the whole plot seemed farcical.

4 Marcus Pierce’s Muddled Mortality

The entire season 3 storyline involving Marcus Pierce, who was really Cain all along, was confused and not very well-thought out. The fact that Pierce was Cain was actually an intriguing twist to the plotline. Not only was he another biblical character but he very quickly became Lucifer’s rival in love for Chloe.

But then Pierce went a little crazy and could not for the life of him decide whether he wanted to be mortal or not. He first wanted to die, for he had spent an eternity alone, which made perfect sense but then promptly changed his mind and wanted his Mark back after going through an elaborate charade to get rid of it. Pierce’ confusion regarding whether or not he wanted mortality perplexed audiences no end.

3 Luci In The Desert With Wings

The second season of the popular fanstasy drama ended on a cliffhanger with Lucifer standing shirtless and winged in the middle of nowhere in the desert, with absolutely no clue as to how he ended up there.

It was revealed at the end of season 3 that Cain had put him there, but no explanation was given regarding why he needed to do it in the first place. Did he perhaps need to ensure a thrilling anticipation for his entrance in the next season?

2 Father Kinley’s Weak Ending

Another hated storyline in season 4 was the one involving Father Kinley. When Chloe finally saw Lucifer’s face in the season 3 finale, she dealt with it in her own way by visiting the Vatican where she came across a rather deranged priest.

Played with alacrity by Graham McTavish of Outlander fame, the father was obssessed with ridding the world of the Devil. This plot itself was building up nicely, but ended ridiculously with Eve killing the Father to let demons loose on the world, hoping they would inspire Lucifer to return to Hell. The weak ending to an otherwise potentially fascinating storyline was a huge letdown for fans.

1 The Contagious Mojo

In season 5 Lucifer and Chloe finally got together, much to the relief of fans. But then something peculiar began to happen. Lucifer lost his mojo, which allowed him to ellicit people’s deepest desires by simply making eye contact with them. His mojo instead showed up in Chloe, although by the end the Devil had got his pwoers back again.

The back and forth of the mojo made no sense, rather became a bit tedious with no meaningful explanation behind it. However, with God finally showing up, one can expect a few answers in the upcoming episodes of season 5.
