His most noteworthy stories haven’t been just in his self-titled series, though, and it’s worth checking out others where he’s had memorable arcs. Likewise, fans should also read comics that are similar to Ant-Man to broaden their range of interest. 10 The Avengers #500 & Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #6-7

Sure, these are technically two comics, but they are chronologically the same story. One of the most tragic deaths for the Avengers arrives when Scott Lang is seemingly killed when Jack of Hearts blows himself up in Avengers #500.

This is when fans should turn to Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #6, where his death is retconned when Scarlet Witch brings Scott to the future, explaining his absence from the explosion this way, However, the true story plays out when an incredible fight involving the Avengers, Young Avengers, X-Men, Magneto, X-Factor and Doctor Doom breaks out, leading to the death of Scott’s daughter Cassie.

9 The Unstoppable Wasp

There’s no doubt that, among the most underrated Avengers, you should find the name of the Wasp. There have been multiple people taking on this identity, with Nadia van Dyne being the Wasp in this iteration. Fans should check this out because Nadia is based on Hope van Dyne from the MCU.

The whole series unfortunately didn’t last too long, but the good thing is that it can be read in its entirety from start to finish. The story is about the origins of Hank Pym’s daughter from his first wife and how she escaped the Red Room and became a superhero in her own right.

8 What If? Vol. 2 #8

It’s the little things that make the biggest difference and this “What If?” scenario highlights the importance of Scott Lang in a crucial moment. The Armor Wars was an extended arc for Iron Man where Scott seemingly played a minor role.

However, the “What If?” angle shows what would have happened if Scott hadn’t been able to assist Tony, leading to a new scenario where Iron Man has to rescue Scott and Cassie. It’s a pretty cool story that underlines Scott’s importance in the main continuity and brings a cool new armor for Iron Man.

7 Irredeemable Ant-Man #1-3

Most stories about Ant-Man feature the superhero either on a noble journey or one where he’s looking to redeem himself for the errors of his past. This one, though, features Eric O’Grady, a man who happened upon the suit out of dumb luck.

This comic book series didn’t have as big of a life as Marvel would have wanted, although fans will get a kick out of watching the Ant-Man powers be used for self-serving purposes. The O’Grady Ant-Man is pretty funny in his conceited way, with the first three issues of his origin story the best ones to check out.

6 Tales To Astonish #35

There are always stories fans want to read after a big one ends, the best for Ant-Man after watching Avengers: Endgame would be the origin of the superhero. He first arrived in Tales to Astonish #35 and quickly grew into his own popularity and comic book.

While Hank Pym first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27, he perfected the serum later on. This issue has him finally fashion the helmet that allowed him to safely converse and control ants, paving the way to becoming the Ant-Man people now know.

5 Atom (1962-1968)

In the large history of Marvel and DC, there have been numerous superheroes either company has stolen. Ant-Man is considered to be inspired by DC’s Atom, with the most popular incarnation being the one of Ray Palmer. Rather than worry about who ripped off whom, it’s better to indulge in more stories.

To this end, fans should check out the entire publication history of the Silver Age Atom comics. These ran for about six years, which will be fascinating reads as one can parallel the similarities with Ant-Man and appreciate Atom for the character he is.

This series was a tie-in for the movie of the same name and is undoubtedly a fun read. It takes place when Scott Lang attempts to return to Earth for his daughter’s birthday with the help of Nadia van Dyne. However, things take a bad turn when the two get entangled in the microverse.

It will appeal to those who feel most comfortable with the MCU style of storytelling. The comic series is equally good for normal readers as the chronology is set within the main universe. Overall, it’s a fun romp through the interesting aspects of the Marvel universe. You might just pick up on some of the ways Ant-Man can theoretically beat Thanos.

3 The Avengers #59-60 yellow jacket

Those who watched Ant-Man the movie feel as if Yellowjacket ranks as the top villain for the superhero. However, what’s interesting to know is that Hank Pym is the first character to appear as the Yellowjacket character.

It’s the result of a botched experiment that changes Pym’s persona and leads him to become cocky and arrogant, something that results in the Yellowjacket’s arrival. The story is both campy and filled with comic book tropes fans generally love.

2 Ant-Man Vol. 2 #1-5

This arc focused on Lang’s relationship with his daughter Cassie, with the storyline revolving around his attempts in keeping her safe. It’s a mixture of bizarre stuff like him opening up a place called Ant-Man Security Solutions and heartwarming moments where he stops at nothing to save his daughter.

Scott’s forced to team up with supervillains in the bid to keep Cassie alive, so this is the arc that fans will find Lang in his most desperate and even heroic. It’s a good read if you’re not fond of too much comic book fluff as the story is kept straight to the point.

1 All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy #12

The Guardians of the Galaxy are such kooky characters that you can find them ranked based on their zodiac signs. If this assessment is made, then Ant-Man deserves to be included as well, seeing as he was a part of the Guardians at one point.

This story sees Scott joining the Guardians as part of his attempt to distance himself from Earth, stemming from his earlier betrayal of the Avengers. In true Guardians fashion, the story is filled with moments of humor that mixes well with Ant-Man’s hopes for redemption.
