Marvel Comics is about to introduce a brand new Sorcerer Supreme who will replace Doctor Strange as Earth’s greatest protector against magical threats. On Monday, it was revealed a mysterious new Sorcerer Supreme will star in their own ongoing Marvel Comics series following the conclusion of the current Death of Doctor Strange miniseries. While Marvel hasn’t announced who will take over the role, we’ve got some guesses.

In September, Marvel Comics shockingly killed Doctor Strange, as a mysterious enemy stabbed Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme to death in the Sanctum Santorum. Following his death, numerous magical threats from across the Multiverse started attacking Earth, as the magical barrier surrounding the planet fell. A past version of the hero arrived in his place, as Doctor Strange created a time remnant of himself to help solve his own murder. As all the chaos unfolds, a group of powerful magic villains named the Three Mothers have emerged and wiped the floor with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – leading the Avengers to pick up the complicated pieces after Strange’s death.

Marvel Comics revealed that a new Sorcerer Supreme will take over the role from Doctor Strange following the conclusion of the Death of Doctor Strange miniseries by Jed Mckay, Lee Garbett, Antonio Fabela, and VC’s Cory Petit. Marvel didn’t reveal who that hero might be or what creative team will tackle the series but released a brand new teaser image for a new “Strange” comic that will begin in 2022. The tagline for the series is, “A new Sorcerer Supreme will rise,” in the aftermath of the Death of Doctor Strange.

There are several candidates who could replace Doctor Strange as the new Sorcerer Supreme. First and foremost, Magik, the current Sorcerer Supreme of Limbo would be among the most qualified for the mantle thanks to her experience and magical ability. Other heroes who might make sense include Doctor Strange allies Doctor Voodoo or Wong. Another great candidate could be Kushala, Marvel’s Demon Rider, a hero whose profile has been on the rise in the comics, who has been the Sorcerer Supreme before.

It’s exciting to see a new face become the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe. However, it’s unclear what that means for Stephen Strange and what comes next for the iconic Avenger following the Death of Doctor Strange. Readers will learn who becomes the new Sorcerer Supreme in future weeks to come. The new Sorcerer Supreme’s series comes to comic book stores in March 2022.
