Since his inception in 1966 for Japanese television, Ultraman, the silver-suited spaceman and dedicated defender from the Inter-Galactic Defense Force, has thrilled international audiences and readers across the globe. A kaiju-crushing hero of the tokusatsu genre, a Japanese term for live-action film or television drama awash in special effects, monsters, and giant mecha, the celebrated Ultraman has proved a merchandising powerhouse for over five decades with myriad adaptations including hit tv and film series, anime and manga productions, an array of collectible toys and action figures, stage shows, and even a “Man of Ultra” fashion-clothing line. Cebulski unveiled details of the upcoming 2020 series, The Rise of Ultraman. At the industry event, Cebulski explained, “As one of the world’s most popular franchises, Ultraman has brought together some of the most passionate fandoms in pop culture today, and we can’t wait to bring his story to even more fans around the globe.” And this September 9th, Marvel Comics and Tsuburaya Productions hand the reigns of the legendary franchise to a new squad of creators for a reimagined series aimed at a the next generation of fans.
