Marvels Avengers Wakanda Reuses Nothing From the Main Game Says Developer

Crystal Dynamics has revealed that Marvel’s Avengers’ big upcoming expansion, Black Panther – War for Wakanda, will not reuse assets from the game’s previous environments. The superhero action title puts players in the role of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for either single-player or multiplayer gameplay. While the game was criticized upon release for its technical issues and emphasis on microtransactions, Crystal Dynamics has continued to improve and expand the game through free downloadable content.

Marvel’s Avengers’ has added only two playable heroes since its release in September 2020, but Crystal Dynamics recently revealed a trailer for the Black Panther – War for Wakanda DLC. This expansion will take players on a journey to the iconic Marvel Comics location, a hyper-advanced African civilization isolated from the rest of the world. Players will be able to take on the role of T’Challa, the titular Black Panther and the rightful king of Wakanda, as he fights off foes that threaten his kingdom. War for Wakanda is set to be the largest piece of content added to Marvel’s Avengers so far, adding not only a new hero and location but also a new story, an enemy faction, and new bosses for players to face. Crystal Dynamics has slowly revealed more of Wakanda, leading up to the expansion’s release in August, with new concept art recently illustrating Wakanda’s impressive locales.

A new blog post from developer Crystal Dynamics reveals that Marvel’s Avengers’ Wakanda will be wholly unique compared to the game’s other environments. The game’s Experience Director, Tore Blystad, explains how Wakanda’s combination of ancient architecture and futuristic technology makes it such a memorable location. Blystad also confirms that no art has been recycled from other regions in the game, meaning that gameplay objects such as chests and turrets will be very distinct compared to how those objects appear throughout the rest of the game.

Before War for Wakanda launches in August, Marvel’s Avengers will also be receiving a new update in July. A recent roadmap update revealed a new raid and hero combination change which will add more end-game content to the struggling title. Typically the Marvel title has a limit of one of each Avenger per group, but April’s Tachyon Anomaly event temporarily removed this limitation. Now players will be free to play with any combination of heroes they wish, meaning it will be possible to have teams of four Thors or Iron Men. A new raid featuring the villainous Super-Adaptoid will also release in July, giving skilled players more difficult challenges to overcome while they wait for War for Wakanda.

Marvel’s Avengers has struggled to find its footing since release, with a lack of varied content and an abundance of microtransactions causing players to avoid the title. Many of the game’s missions involve traversing nearly identical hallways, opening identical chests, and fighting identical enemies. However, the War for Wakanda expansion appears to be the game’s biggest and best piece of content yet, with a beloved character and setting both making their appearance. Crystal Dynamics’ dedication to providing an authentic Wakanda experience, complete with brand-new environmental assets. suggests that the August expansion may be exactly what the title needs.
