Marvels D23 Artwork Spotlights The Wasp & Infinity War

The upcoming issue of Disney’s D23 magazine puts the spotlight on Hope van Dyne with new art for Avengers: Infinity War and a cover for Ant-Man & The Wasp. We’ve known for awhile that The Wasp won’t be in Infinity War, but it wasn’t long ago we learned Evangeline Lilly will barely be in Avengers 4. Thankfully, later this year, Hope van Dyne will debut as the all-new Wasp in the follow-up to Ant-Man, and as the title of the film implies, she will be getting plenty of focus.

Knowing that, however, it begs the question: where is The Wasp in Avengers: Infinity War? There are plenty of theories – mostly focusing on her journey to the Quantum Realm to search for her missing mother – but it also seems clear that Ant-Man & The Wasp is set before Infinity War. And with 2019’s Phase 3-ending filming looking to follow on the heels of Infinity War, that could be why Hope is so absent from Avengers 4 as well. Fortunately, for fans of the character, Marvel is still putting her front-and-center in their marketing efforts.

Disney has unveiled details for the upcoming issue of their fan magazine D23. The issue’s multiple covers will not only spotlight Christopher Robin, Avengers: Infinity War, and The Incredibles 2, but there’s even one dedicated to Ant-Man & The Wasp showing Lily and Paul Rudd suited up (sans helmets). On top of that, Marvel revealed a new piece of art titled “The Road to Infinity War – 10 Years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe” that brings together a number of Avengers, including The Wasp. You can check out both of those things, below:

Marvels D23 Artwork Spotlights The Wasp & Infinity War

Given how little The Wasp is in the next two Avengers installments, it may seem strange to have her in the art. However, the artwork by Marvel concept artist Ryan Meinerding appears to focus more on everything that’s happened in Marvel Studios’ first ten years rather than something specific to Avengers: Infinity War. And though Ant-Man & The Wasp will come out after Infinity War, its arrival this year means that The Wasp is a key part of the MCU’s first decade of existence.

The artwork also features Ant-Man, one of many characters missing from the Infinity War marketing so far. That includes this week’s Avengers: Infinity War character posters, which featured neither Ant-Man nor (as many have noticed by now) Hawkeye. While the latter’s secretive story has understandably kept him out of the movie’s trailers, his exclusion from posters and even this artwork is a bit curious, put simply.

Hopefully, D23 will have offer more insight on the upcoming films. When it comes to Marvel, the issue will includes features on Kevin Feige, an interview with Ant-Man and The Wasp director Peyton Reed, and a discussion with Mulan and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Ming-Na Wen. Along with the new artwork, it could be a must-have for any Marvel fan looking to get their MCU fix ahead of Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man & The Wasp opening later this year.
