Mayans MC Miguel Galindo Makes the First Move Against His Mothers Killers

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Mayans M.C. Season 3, Episode 9, “The House of Death Floats By,” which aired Tuesday on FX.

At the end of Mayans M.C. Season 2, EZ Reyes murdered Dita Galindo at her request and with the knowledge of both Angel Reyes and Felipe Reyes. However, fearing the wrath of Miguel Galindo, they covered up her murder and made it look like a suicide by burning her body. And while this fooled Miguel for a time, in Mayans M.C. Season 3, Episode 8, “A Mixed-Up and Splendid Rescue,” the Galindo Cartel leader figured out the truth. In the latest episode, “The House of Death Floats By,” Miguel acts on that information.

In “A Mixed-Up and Splendid Rescue,” Miguel learned from the Medical Examiner’s Office that his mother had died from strangulation, not immolation. This led him to seek out former housekeeper Maria, who made clear that Dita thought she might be killed by the Reyes family and Emily Galindo, Miguel’s wife. From there, Miguel went to Nestor, who revealed that Marcus Álvarez had withheld the motorbike tracks at the site of Dita’s murder.

When “The House of Death Floats By” kicks off, Emily is blissfully unaware that her husband is onto her, and even defends him against her sister Erin, who privately accuses Miguel of being abusive for having choked Emily during sex the night before. As that’s going on, Miguel has actually called Álvarez to a meeting. While Miguel doesn’t reveal that he knows about Álvarez covering up the motorcycle tracks (instead allowing Nestor to take the sole blame), he does ask that the Mayans Godfather kill EZ Reyes.

Then, back at home, Miguel feigns affection for Emily, even going so far as to draw her a bath filled with rose petals. As the night progresses, though, Miguel’s true plan becomes clear. While pouring a glass of wine for Emily, he crushes up and mixes her medication into the drink. When she drinks this glass of wine, Emily becomes unable to control her body, and Miguel pushes her head beneath the water so as to drown her.

Afterwards, Miguel goes to their bedroom and starts crying over what he’s done. He ends up relenting and rushing to the bathroom. Miguel pulls Emily out, and she starts coughing up the water she swallowed. It’s clear by the end of “The House of Death Floats By” that death has indeed floated by Emily, but the event is sure to fracture their relationship.

As a result of his mother’s death, Miguel has been slowly breaking down, and “The House of Death Floats By” really brings things to a head. Álvarez, for his part, seems reticent to kill EZ, despite the many sins of the Santo Padre Mayans in the club’s ongoing civil war. This could then lead to a major shift against Miguel, especially if Álvarez decides that his loyalties lie with the club he founded or his current boss.

Created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, Mayans M.C. stars J.D. Pardo as EZ Reyes, Clayton Cardenas as Angel Reyes, Sarah Bolger as Emily Galindo, Michael Irby as Obispo “Bishop” Losa, Carla Baratta as Luisa “Adelita” Espina, Richard Cabral as Johnny “Coco” Cruz, Raoul Trujillo as Che “Taza” Romero, Danny Pino as Miguel Galindo, Edward James Olmos as Felipe Reyes and Emilio Rivera as Marcus Álvarez. New episodes air Tuesday on FX and are made available the following day on Hulu.
