Mixer Streamers Advertise Twitch Channels As They Desperately Jump Ship

After the announcement made today that Mixer would be ending their streaming service, some creators on Mixer have been featured on Mixer’s home page advertising their new streaming platforms. Mixer streamers are now moving to other platforms like Twitch, Youtube, and Facebook Gaming, and have been encouraging their viewers to follow/subscribe to their new channels. These advertisements range from stream titles of their new channels, text overlays on their thumbnails, or their thumbnails being a wall of white text on a black background.

This spike in Mixer streamers jumping ship started after Mixer announced today that they would be ending their operations and would be partnering with Facebook Gaming. Mixer announced that their platform would be up and running until July 22 and that all partnered streamers have the opportunity to keep their partner status if they move to Facebook Gaming. Streamers have been hesitant to make the switch to Facebook Gaming as it is a much smaller streaming platform in terms of the number of streamers and viewers that utilize the platform. Some streamers, such as former Twitch and Mixer streamer Gothalion, have already committed to making the jump to Facebook Gaming.

The home page of Mixer has been overtaken with streamers, such as PoN3D, advertising their next destinations. A large number of streamers can be found broadcasting under the category “Web Show” where they are discussing their future plans. Many streamers have taken this opportunity to set up their Twitch channels live while encouraging those watching to follow them on their new platforms. Almost every streamer on Mixer’s front page is self-promoting their new Twitch channel.

While the majority of these streams are only pulling a few hundred concurrent viewers, even the platform’s largest streamers aren’t sure what they are going to do next. Mixer streamers such as Ninja and Shroud have yet to decide where they are going to go next, both tweeting that they are thankful for their time on Mixer and will be thinking about their next steps going forward. Regardless of their decisions, it seems as if the majority of smaller streamers on the platform are jumping ship and moving to Twitch.

Twitch, being the internet’s largest and most successful streaming platform, will happily accept the hundred of streamers migrating from Mixer. With a larger pool of viewers, it may be easier for Mixer streamers to grow on Twitch if they are already pulling an average of a few hundred viewers a stream. And while Facebook has already agreed to honor a streamer’s partner status, it will be interesting to see if Twitch does as well. After all, the Mixer home page is currently one big Twitch ad.
