More Hitman 3 Content Is Coming According To Developer

Though Hitman 3 marks the end of the World of Assassination Trilogy, developer IO Interactive is finished with neither the latest entry nor Hitman in general. According to those who’ve played it, Hitman 3 acts as the perfect lead into a potential fourth Hitman installment. The title’s early sales success on the market also seems to guarantee IO Interactive won’t want to leave Agent 47 waiting in the shadows for too long.

In the first week alone, Hitman 3’s sales managed to recoup all of its development costs. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed as much in a recent interview, noting that such success puts the studio in a “really good place.” Now the crew is free to confidently pursue its next ambitious project, which will see the Hitman creators move from one secret agent to another with an original James Bond game.

Speaking with TheGamer, executive producer Forest Swartout Large teased that IO Interactive’s work on the beloved stealth IP isn’t complete. Large told the publication, “we’re continuously working on Hitman so we are already looking to the future.” Whether or not this means the team has its sights squared on a possible Hitman 4 remains to be seen, but Large did confirm Hitman 3 DLC is on the cards. New maps akin to the New York bank DLC for Hitman 2 aren’t what IOI has in mind, though. Rather, the team wants to reimagine existing locales. Large explained:

“We are definitely going to be doing some DLC, but we haven’t defined what that is. I think for now we are not looking at new maps like the bank and the island. We’re more looking at using existing locations and reimagining them, twisting them. And this time around, we can use the whole trilogy. We can look back at Hitman 2016 maps, Hitman 2 maps – we have all the locations.”

Large’s comments indicate Hitman 3 is bound to receive more Elusive Targets and Escalation Contracts, as opposed to entirely new levels. In Hitman 2, IO Interactive rolled out such post-launch content via an Expansion Pass, which players were able to pre-purchase ahead of the sequel’s release. The newest installment doesn’t have a similar offering as of yet; thus, it’s not clear how IOI will deploy DLC when the time comes.

As noted previously, Hitman 3 is already an incredible success for its developer. In addition to recouping development costs within a week of release, the follow up had the biggest digital launch in franchise history. This momentum is likely to continue, given the universally positive reception from critics and fans alike.
