Morgan Freeman is one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood. His career has spanned a number of different and fantastic projects that have made him respected in the industry and of course well known across the world.

Rotten Tomatoes is a way in which we can measures any actors career. While in the past we have looked at Freeman’s best and worst films through IMDB, we now take a look at his best movies with the help of Rotten Tomatoes. So, here are the ten greatest hits of his career.

10 MILLION DOLLAR BABY (2004): 91%

The star studded Million Dollar Baby is actually written and directed by Clint Eastwood, who is demonstrating his amazing film making abilities here. Morgan has a major role to play throughout, in helping the young Maggie reach her dreams.

A daughter and father are reunited for the first time in years, as Maggie requires a boxing coach. The film takes us on a journey where we eventually see this incredible athlete reach her full potential. The 2004 film scored 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

9 GLORY (1989): 93%

Glory tells the powerful story of African-American soldiers that have been ignored for their bravery during the American Civil War. It’s a narrative that has not been properly told due to institutional racism and they never quite got the recognition they deserve.

Freeman plays one of the heroic soldiers in question and has a leading role alongside the amazing Denzel Washington. The two have fantastic chemistry and it went on to gain a 93% fresh rating and a place in history as one of Freeman’s most inspirational movies.

8 MARCH OF THE PENGUINS (2005): 94%

Every now and again a studio will put together a breathtaking documentary that manages to perfectly portray the world’s wildlife in their natural habitat. Disney Nature has become famous for this, but Warner Bros. have also put out their own brand of nature docs.

The documentary in question, March of the Penguins is a film that takes viewers on a journey across these desolate snowy landscapes. A strong narrative comes from their journey across the ice and Morgan Freeman lends his tones to this 94% rated film.

7 GONE BABY GONE (2007): 94%

Ben Affleck has certainly had some hits and misses in his career as both an actor and a director. Argo is widely considered to be the height of his filmmaking abilities, with Affleck managing to get amazing performances from both himself and his cast. However, Gone Baby Gone is also a valiant effort.

The film is directed by the former Batman and heavily features Morgan throughout as the character Jack Doyle. The movie focuses on the working class streets of Boston and this thriller has gained rave reviews, boasting a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

6 THE DARK KNIGHT (2008): 94%

The Dark Knight is considered one of the best superhero movies on Rotten Tomatoes, although there are some pretty great ones featured on the review site. Christopher Nolan’s vision for the film was amplified by the incredible performance of Heath Ledger.

Ledger’s Joker absolutely dominates the film, but there’s plenty of time to support some of the veteran actors in supporting roles. Freeman’s Lucius Fox is written as if he jumped straight out of the comics and he lends some credibility to every scene he’s in. This also got a great 94%.

5 UNFORGIVEN (1992): 96%

Clint Eastwood is once again behind the camera on this film and is redefining the western genre that he had become so famous for. He’s once again working with Morgan Freeman, who of course manages to elevate every film he’s starred in.

The Oscar winning film took away a lot of the Hollywood tone that had become part of western movies and added the raw grit that fans would have been used to in the early days of the genre. Freeman’s Ned Logan helps to gain the film a 96% rating.

4 THE LEGO MOVIE (2014): 96%

Everything is awesome for this award-winning animated film about the toy bricks that kids around the world love. While the team behind the film, Lord and Miller, are incredibly talented and have produced endless hits, the mini figures are definitely the stars of the show.

With a cast bursting with talent, including the likes of Chris Pratt, Jonah Hill, Elizabeth Banks, Channing Tatum, Will Ferrell, Will Arnett, Allison Brie, Nick Offerman, Liam Neeson, Cobie Smulders and of course the list goes on. Freeman’s Vitruvius is such a fun role and the movie is as great as its 96% suggests.

3 BORN TO BE WILD (2011): 98%

Another nature documentary from Warner Bros. again now and once more Morgan Freeman managed to find some time in his incredibly busy schedule to lend his voice to the narration of the film; we have to say the movie is all the better for it.

Born to be Wild follows a range of animals including Orangutans and Elephants in their natural habitats. There’s a surprisingly human story at the core of this film which certainly resonated with audiences and critics, resulting in a 98% rating.

2 THE C WORD (2015): 100%

Morgan Freeman’s voice is fantastic for these roles where he can narrate someone else’s story. While he is one of the best actors of his generation, there’s something about his tone that helps to bring a sense of understanding to any topic he’s talking about.

The c word is of course cancer and the film follows a set of individuals that have struggled with the horrible illness. It’s heartbreaking, inspiration and of course instantly deserving of the 100% rating it has, although was never certified fresh.

1 MARCH OF THE PENGUINS 2: THE NEXT STEP (2017): 100%

The first March of the Penguins was such a hit that the studio was prompted to make another film about these marvelous animals. The penguins in question have captured the hearts and minds of audiences across the world.

Morgan Freeman also felt like it was worth revisiting this project and decided to narrate this world once again. He’s a great storyteller and naturally the film managed to improve on the first by bringing in a 100% approval rating on RT!
