Mortal Kombat XI Revealed By Disgruntled Voice Actor

Mortal Kombat XI may have been revealed by a disgruntled voice actor on Twitter. The much-wanted Mortal Kombat sequel has been on the cards for some time, but developer NetherRealm Studios has remained tight lipped about the prospect of Mortal Kombat XI. Now, the announcement of the game may have been taken out of the company’s hands.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has always remained coy about the development of games at the company, but there are some facts that Mortal Kombat fans know. For starters, it has been confirmed that NetherRealm is working on a new game, while Boon himself has denied rumors that another Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe title is on the cards. It all points towards Mortal Kombat XI, but some of the larger gaming events of the year have not led to an expected reveal.

That said, Mortal Kombat XI may have now had a reveal of sorts. On Twitter, a clearly unhappy Eduardo Garza both revealed that Mortal Kombat XI exists and is in development, and that he was set to voice Kung Lao and Reptile. The comment from Garza, a voice actor who has previously voiced the likes of Lucio in Overwatch and Krillin in Dragon Ball, can be seen below.

The dispute that led to the removal of Garza’s work appears to be with localization company Pink Noise rather than NetherRealm directly. Garza eventually went on to clarify that he did not know if this was for “a MKXI, MK 10.5, MKXYZ or whatever,” but given that an expanded version of Mortal Kombat X called Mortal Kombat XL was released back in 2016, it seems highly likely that this is an entirely new game in the series.

It will be interesting to see when Mortal Kombat XI is officially announced. The Game Awards is just around the corner, kicking off on December 7, and that could be the perfect time for a new Mortal Kombat game to be announced. However, whether NetherRealm and publisher Warner Bros. feel the game is ready for a reveal this year remains to be seen.

Whenever Mortal Kombat XI is officially announced, the game will hopefully see some major improvements over the last title. Although the fighting itself was thrilling, the microtransaction mechanics left a lot to be desired, and as such Mortal Kombat XI needs to be better about monetization to really create a fair beat ’em up. Hopefully, such issues will have been addressed given the feedback Mortal Kombat X received from players.
