My Little Pony Generations Follows Final Friendship is Magic Comic

The monthly My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic book series from IDW Publishing will be coming to an end this September, but fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as it will be followed one month later by a new miniseries called My Little Pony: Generations. Friendship is Magic recently hit a huge milestone by reaching issue #100, and it will be ending with issue #102.

The My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series began back in 2012. While it was set in the world of Ponyville with the characters established in the television show, the comic book had completely original stories until issue #89, which picked up where the television show ended with stories collectively described as Season 10 of the narrative. There was also a crossover miniseries with another IDW series and beloved nostalgic property, Transformers.

IDW Publishing has announced it will be releasing My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #102 as an oversized issue from writer Jeremy Whitley (The Unstoppable Wasp) and artist Andy Price (Quantum Leap). The creative team is extremely familiar with the world, as they have been longtime mainstays for the series. This particular issue is the climactic finale to the Season 10 story arc featuring the Knights of Order attacking Equestria. Along with their friends, the Mane 6 (comprised of Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie) must protect the Elements of Harmony. IDW announced the issue will have plenty of variant covers as well, including the main cover by interior artist Andy Price, a variant by fellow My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic artist JustaSuta, and a retailer incentive edition cover with artwork from Roopsha Mandal.

However, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic will not be the end of the Mane 6. Beginning in October, IDW Publishing has announced My Little Pony: Generations. This five-issue miniseries will feature a crossover between the Friendship is Magic version of the ponies with the original first generation of ponies from the 1980s. The two generations will be facing off against a “new witch threat” from the ominously named Volcano of Doom. Generations will be written by Casey Gilly with artwork by Michela Cacciatore and colors by Heather Breckel. Speaking about the upcoming series, Gilly said, “I hope all My Little Pony fans can reconnect with characters from their past, enjoy the Mane 6 on another wild adventure, and fall in love with a couple of sassy, powerful, teenage witches the way that I have.” This is a good time for My Little Pony comic to be in the news again as the property will be coming to Netflix as an animated movie and show. It’s extremely impressive that IDW Publishing and the talented creative teams of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic have created something so long-lasting, an achievement many publishers struggle to ever reach. Publishing the book for almost a decade, it feels like the end of an era in a way for IDW as they finish Friendship is Magic and begin Generations, which seems to be the start of a nostalgic road trip through Ponyville and beyond. Hopefully, there will also be more fun and weird crossovers in the works as well. Grab a copy of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #102 in September and then pick up My Little Pony: Generations in October.
