Netflixs Close Trailer & Poster Noomi Rapace Is A Badass Bodyguard

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’s Noomi Rapace becomes a badass bodyguard in the new trailer and poster for Netflix’s action movie Close. The film marks yet another big Netflix project for Rapace, after she starred as all seven of the Settman Siblings in the streamer’s forgettable 2017 sci-fi movie What Happened to Monday, and later appeared as the bad elf Leilah in the $90 million Will Smith sci-fi/fantasy mashup Bright.

Before making the leap to big-budget American action movies, Rapace first came to international attention as the brooding gothic hacker Lisbeth Salander in the original Swedish-language trilogy based on Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series. In 2012, she took on the role of space explorer Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus, a role she would reprise (albeit briefly) in 2017’s Alien: Covenant. Rapace has beefed up her action movie resume in some smaller budget films as well, including the drama Dead Man Down and the thriller Unlocked.

Rapace’s latest foray into action sees her returning to Netflix, this time in the role of a very hardcore bodyguard assigned to protect a rich heiress (Sophie Nélisse). Directed by Vicky Jewson (Born of War), Close was actually inspired by the real-life exploits of Jacquie Davis, who is renowned for being the world’s leading female bodyguard. Netflix has dropped a trailer and new poster for the “adrenaline-pumping action thriller,” both of which can be seen below:

Close follows Rapace’s hardcore character and her youthful charge as they find themselves forced to go on the run after a violent attempted kidnapping, and in the blunt words of the film’s synopsis, “Now they’ve got to take some lives – or lose theirs.” The trailer definitely promises a lot of intense action, with Rapace taking on the ultra-violent protector role you’d normally see going to the likes of Liam Neeson or Gerard Butler. But as Rapace has shown throughout her career, she’s very happy to take on the kinds of intense, physically demanding action roles that normally go to men.

It remains to be seen if this latest teaming between Rapace and Netflix will result in a solid all-around action movie, or another dud along the lines of What Happened to Monday. Either way, fans of Rapace look like they will get a big helping of the actress tearing it up in her now-signature action hero fashion.
