Netflixs Spinning Out 10 Questions Well Never Get Answered Now That The Series Is Cancelled

Spinning Out was released on Netflix on January 1st of 2020, and since then it has been well-received by critics and audiences alike, garnering widely positive feedback. Sure, the series had a number of problems, but it was off to a strong start for its first season. Because of this, many fans were disappointed when it was announced that Spinning Out’s first season would also be its last, and Netflix canceled the series in late January.

The figure skating drama was a fledgling show, and while it had potential, it definitely had its share of nonsensical storylines and plot holes. Even the main relationships in the series were riddled with inconsistency. But the characters and their bonds made quite the impact on viewers, leaving us with countless questions now that the series has been canceled. Let’s take a look at some of the most major.

10 What Happens To Marcus?

Marcus’ arcs in this series always tended to be nothing short of perplexing, as he went from being a love interest for Kat to a medical student to an aspiring Olympic-level skier. Things have always been kind of all over the place for this character, and his ending doesn’t really clear everything up.

He seems to ultimately end up in a relationship with his coworker, Alana, but in Spinning Out’s final episode, Marcus is shown leaving Sun Valley to pursue his skiing career, so, what happens with his relationship and the rest of his life?

9 Is Carol…Better?

Portraying mental illness is not something that this series does particularly well, but it didn’t do a terrible job either. Two of the main characters, Kat Baker, and her mother, Carol, suffered from bipolar disordered, and the performances, portrayed symptoms, and their accuracy were highly debated by fans.

By the end of the series ten-episode run, Carol seems to have recovered – at least temporarily. But does she actually stick to taking her medication and being a responsible mother rather than going for a more reckless lifestyle? Likewise, we don’t even get to see her longterm reaction to her relationship with Mitch ending.

8 Does Mitch Leave For Good?

While we’re on the aforementioned topic, it’s worth noting that Mitch just up and leaves at Nationals. Serena was in the middle of a disastrous long program, and after discovering that Carol had an affair, Mitch – who is also Serena’s coach – abandons the entire thing.

So there are many questions left unanswered in this regard; where does Mitch go? Does he reconcile with Carol? Does he dump Serena as a student? Does he ever hear about what happened between Serena and Dr. Parker?

7 What Happens To Jenn?

After getting over an apparently significant crush on her best friend’s boyfriend, Justin, Jenn begins to move on with her life. During her last appointment with the local doctor, Ethan Parker, the ladder asks Jenn out on a date – an invitation she eventually accepts.

The problem is that Ethan, as revealed at the end of Spinning Out’s penultimate episode, “#1 Mom,” is a pedophile who preys on his own young patients. Obviously, the big tragedy is that he was having an inappropriate relationship with Serena, but this is also a tragedy for Jenn, who was dating Dr. Parker at the end of the series.

6 Is Justice Served?

In relation to the above topic concerning Dr. Parker, the question still remains whether the man is ever convicted and charged for his crimes. We, the audience, find out about Serena’s extremely disturbing secret in the penultimate episode, but Kat and Carol are kept in the dark until late into the series’ final episode.

While we get Serena’s family’s reaction to this horrible twist, we don’t even know whether they successfully prove Parker’s crimes to the authorities, which is a pretty notable cliffhanger that will never get resolved.

5 Do Kat And Justin Skate A Clean Long Program?

Spinning Out ended with several unanswered questions, but it also concluded its finale on a significant cliffhanger, showing Kat and Justin about to skate their long program at Nationals. The team had performed some impressive skates in order to qualify for the competition, but the series alluded to the fact that their clean skating was due to Kat’s issues that manifested when she stopped her medication.

The finale sees Kat recovered and back on her lithium, so will she be able to land her triple jumps and move past the stigma in her mind? We shall never know.

4 Do Kat And Jenn Reconcile?

Kat and Jenn’s close friendship was a major part of Spinning Out. Their relationship hit tumultuous waters early on in the season, but by the final episode they had made up. That is until the drama with Dr. Parker and Serena became known to Kat, and Jenn reacted terribly.

Reverting back to being angry at her longtime best friend for being mentally ill, Jenn lashed out at Kat when the ladder confronted Dr. Parker about his relationship with Serena. Jenn refused to believe this, so we ended the series with the two friends being at odds with each other once again.

3 Does Serena Recover?

This is one of the biggest questions that fans have after the series’ cancellation. The big twist with Serena and Dr. Parker was one of the most shocking moments in the series, and it’s a shame that there will never be closure for what Serena went through.

We’ll never know how Serena copes with all this, and we also won’t find out whether she recovers in terms of her skating career, either.

2 How Does Dasha Cope?

Dasha was Justin and Kat’s coach in the series and arguably one of the most unforgettable characters. During the show, she had a lot of her own drama going on, along with dealing with the drama of her two young students. Namely, Dasha revealed that she was in a same-sex relationship with the love of her life, but sacrificed this for her figure skating career.

Eventually, with some encouragement from Jenn and Serena, Dasha reconnects with her ex-girlfriend, Tatiana. However, this does not go as planned, when Tatiana rejects Dasha. This was a sad moment in the series, and even sadder, we won’t see how Dasha copes with this.

1 Does Mandy’s Baby Pull Through?

Mandy, the stepmother of Justin Davis, gives birth to a premature baby girl in episode eight, “Hell Is Real”. The baby was in critical condition, still in the ICU when the series concluded. We discover that Mandy has had a number of miscarriages and is terrified of losing this baby.

Sadly, the fate of the newest addition to the Davis family is left unknown, and we never get to know whether or not she made it out of the ICU.
