New Girl: The Worst Things Jess Did

Zooey Deschanel’s Jess was the main character in New Girl and quite an interesting one. She wasn’t perfect and did some bad things during the show.

Jessica Day is the focal point of FOX’s hit comedy New Girl. Jess is one of the most lovable, charming, and hilarious women that have ever graced television screens. Even when Jess finds herself in trouble or doesn’t say the right thing, she’s quick to problem solve and apologize and always finishes each day with a sense of accomplishment and a lot of love from her friends and roommates.

It seems as though Jess can do no wrong, but she does. When Jess does stray to the dark side, things tend to get a little out of hand and it takes a lot to right her wrongs.

10 She Breaks The TV… Twice

Jess has barely moved into the loft and already manages to destroy one of the most precious things to her new roommates, their television.

In an effort to fit in, Jess throws a ball across the loft and it lands right on the tv, breaking the entire set. Jess mentions she has a TV at her ex’s house and the roommates insist she gets it. Jess is hesitant at first but agrees. Once she gets the TV from Spencer’s house, she drops it, ruining that television as well.

9 Sings All The Time

Jess’ new roommates start to regret their decision to let her move in as soon as she starts singing. When Jess is in a really good mood or gets really excited about something, she usually expresses her feelings by making up a song and singing it loudly.

This habit drives her roommates crazy and it actually gets pretty annoying to watch over and over again. Luckily, for the guys and fans of the show, Jess tempers the singing as the series goes on.

8 Laughs At Nick

Jess struggles with boundaries a little bit and has a habit of not knocking before she enters someone’s room, or knocking as she enters, giving them no time to gather themselves before she comes in.

This bad habit makes for a particularly awkward situation when Jess walks in on Nick naked and see everything. Her gut reaction is to laugh at Nick, which gives him a big of a complex and Nick struggles with his image while on his date later that night.

7 Breaks A Science Project

Jess is a teacher, which means she has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint, but those two characteristics are tested when Jess is confronted by a difficult student who starts bullying her teacher online.

Jess tries to reason with Brianna and make her understand how her actions are hurtful, but Brianna doesn’t seem to care at all, which just upsets Jess even more. In a moment of rage, Jess breaks Brianna’s science fair project and can’t fix it, causing Brianna to lose.

6 Makes Fun Of Cece’s Model Friends

Jess’s best friend Cece is a model and because that is her full-time job, Cece is also friends with a lot of the models she works with.

Jess feels really left out and insecure when she’s forced to go out with Cece and her model friends, but instead of talking to Cece about how she feels or saying no to a night out with that group of people, Jess spends most of her time mocking the women both behind their back and to their faces.

5 Nick’s Cooler

Nick points out in one episode that Jess frequently gets in the way of Nick hitting on or going out with a woman he’s attracted to. Jess insists that is not the case, but can’t back up her claims with any action because she does put herself between Nick and other women frequently, either by saying the wrong thing or by physically getting in the way.

Maybe it’s Jess’s real feelings playing out subconsciously, but it really annoys Nick and when he tries to tell her that, it only makes her do it more.

4 Uses Artie

When Jess and Nick start dating, they find themselves in that awkward early stage where they aren’t sure what to call each other and what to label their relationship.

Jess gets upset with Nick because he isn’t calling her his “girlfriend” and in retaliation (and with the help of Cece), Jess calls Artie, played by the very handsome Taye Diggs, to make Nick jealous. Jess’s plan works and she and Nick put a label on their relationship, but poor Artie is left feeling used and embarrassed at the end of it all.

3 Eats The Fish

Jessica makes a really big mistake on a Thanksgiving camping trip gone wrong. Nick convinces everyone to go camping for the holiday and when they get to the campsite, he informs his friends that they will have to hunt and gather for their Thanksgiving dinner.

Nick is the only one excited by the idea and in an effort to prove it’s a good one, he picks up a dead fish from the lake and cooks it. To support her boyfriend, Jess eats the rotten fish, which she instantly realizes was a terrible life choice.

2 Roots For The Pistons

Nick has a lot of pride in his hometown of Chicago and their sports teams. As Nick’s girlfriend, Jess should share those interests with him and support her boyfriend’s teams, considering she doesn’t have a team of her own that she likes to root for.

Instead, Jess goes against Nick and starts rooting for the Pistons as a way to win over Coach and form a friendship with him. Nick is clearly upset by Jess’s choice and it takes her a while to realize it.

1 Locks Cece Out And Packs Her Things

Cece is getting ready to marry Schmidt and move out of the apartment she’s called home since she moved to Los Angeles when she was eighteen years old. It’s a big moment for Cece and she’s clearly struggling and stalling during her move.

Jess is trying to help her friend but also has a big work project due the next day, so to speed up the packing process, she locks Cece out of her own apartment and packs her things for her, giving Cece no time to absorb wants happening or say goodbye to the things Jess decides to throw out.
