Bots have started to flood fishing hotspots in Amazon’s New World and players are retaliating by turning wildlife animals like boars against them. More often than not, MMORPGs and bots go hand in hand. And though it just launched last week, New World has already become frustratingly saturated with cheaters to the chagrin of many an early adopter.
The fishing mechanic in New World boasts its own set of intricacies. To get the most out of the experience, players will want to equip the best fishing poles, which are buildable and upgradeable with materials such as wood, linen, and leather. Of course, various types of bait, buffs, and charms will further enhance every user’s chances of success when trying to land a suitable fresh water or salt water catch. Fishing hotspots, naturally, play a massive role in the chances of success, too; thus, it should come as no surprise that bots have wormed their way into some of the Amazon role-playing title’s better known fishing holes.
Unfortunately, cheaters in New World are using bots to farm resources such as rare fish. One Reddit user recently shared a quick clip of a particular fishing spot whose dock swarmed with bots constantly flicking their rods. GameRant notes these bots were programmed to quickly identify whether or not their attempts attract rare fish, hence the constant casting. In lieu of Amazon rolling out a proper fix, users have taken matters into their own hands by setting wild animals like boars against fishing bots. And since each bot’s singular role centers around fishing, they lack the necessary tools to fight back.
This particular solution and others like it greatly inconveniences those who intend to hunt and gather resources fairly. Until the New World development team deploys a patch that rids the MMORPG of such issues, though, wildlife attacks seem the ideal way of dispatching this brand of cheater.
New World has already proven a massive success for Amazon, managing to top Steam’s concurrent player count in its first weekend of availability. During opening weekend, the title accrued an impressive 913,000 concurrent players and ranked above the likes of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. It should be interesting to see how long the title can maintain such momentum.
