New xXx: The Return of Xander Cage Trailer

The first xXx: The Return of Xander Cage trailer is packed full of mind-blowing action scenes as the new team hunts down a deadly weapon.

After almost 15 years, fans are finally getting more of the extreme sports junkie turned secret international spy on a mission to save the world that we all know and love. xXx: The Return of Xander Cage promises to bring fellow adrenaline-seekers and Vin Diesel fans plenty of action in the form of three things: “Guns, girls, and global domination.”

As with the previous films in the xXx franchise, we can expect to see some pretty over-the-top (bordering on completely ridiculous) stunts. If we thought bungee jumping off of a cell phone tower and skiing on the treetops through a tropical jungle was impossible, Xander Cage (Diesel) clearly proves us wrong as he skis through the trees with ease.

The first official trailer (above) gives us quite the montage of action-packed scenes mixed in with a few words here and there. Samuel L. Jackson’s returning character NSA Agent Augustus Eugene Gibbons explains that, “the world has changed, the war we are fighting today needs a different kind of soldier, we need people with the skills and the attitudes to take on threats that we don’t even know exist.”

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, directed by D. J. Caruso, features a high-octane cast (as seen in the trailer) of action film stars including martial artists Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa, MMA fighter Conor McGregor, and The Hound from HBO’s Game of Thrones Rory McCaan. Also cast is an impressive list of women with Nina Dobrev, Toni Collette, Ruby Rose, and Indian superstar Deepika Padukone as the leading lady. The entire team is set to take on a new deadly weapon called Pandora’s Box.

The official synopsis for the film reads:

The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments.

The Return of Xander Cage seems to be a return to form for the xXx franchise, which petered out after the less well-received sequel xXx: State of the Union that didn’t feature Diesel as the hero. But, since it’s been so many years, interest in the franchise may have waned – though, arguably, interest in Diesel has not if his role in the ongoing Fast and Furious franchise is any indication. Still, it won’t be long until fans get to see The Return of Xander Cage for themselves since the film hits theaters early next year.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage will release in theaters on January, 20th, 2017
