Next in Fashion Everything You Need to Know About Tan Frances New Netflix Series

Netflix is giving Project Runway a run for its money with its new design competition show Next in Fashion led by Queer Eye’s Tan France and designer Alexa Chung. The show is launching its first 10 episode season on Netflix.

Queer Eye has been a huge hit and one of its stars – Tan France – is responsible for the fashion part of the show. The English fashion designer has appeared on several other reality shows and even took on a small acting role in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend where he appeared as over the top character Fett Ragoso. However, Next in Fashion has France doing what he does best and his cohost Alexa Chung is no lightweight either. The successful model turned fashion designer collaborated with several well-known brands before launching her own very successful label. She has been won the British Style Award at the British Fashion Awards multiple times.

Next in Fashion will feature 18 designers competing for the chance to debut their collection with luxury fashion retailer Net-a-Porter, as well as a cash prize of $250,000. The designers, are experienced but still looking for a chance to become the next big name in fashion. According to Netflix, the contestants “have worked for major brands and dressed A-list celebrities.” The show will feature various guest judges as well as recurring guest judges Elizabeth Stewart and Eva Chen. The contestants will face various challenges around influential global design styles or trends. Designers will be cut along the way, something that may be hard for France coming from the show Queer Eye where no one ever “loses.”

The show is sure to draw many Project Runway comparisons, which isn’t a bad thing. The iconic fashion competition show has been on for an impressive 18 seasons and has had 6 spin-offs as well as international versions of the show. With the undeniable chemistry of France and Chung, it’s clear they are making room for one more hit fashion competition. It remains to be seen how the format will differ and how it will be similar but previews definitely have Project Runway meets Queer Eye vibes which will likely attract a huge fanbase.

France’s likeability, amazing hair, and fashion sense combined with Alexa’s global fashion icon status the deck is stacked in favor of success for this show. Whether Next in Fashion will unseat Project Runway from its reality TV fashion competition show throne remains to be seen. Though no announcements have been made for a second season, it is hard to imagine there won’t be one in the works soon. Coming on the heels of its success with The Circle, Netflix might just be the new place to get your reality TV fix.
