Nintendo Switch Online How To Remove Controller Settings From Screen

Players can remove the controller settings from the screen in Nintendo Switch Online. With the recent addition of Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles to Nintendo’s online subscription service, it’s likely that many players are looking to play some classic games. Included in the first batch of releases are titles such as Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. While a handful of N64 titles won’t appear on Nintendo Switch Online, titles like Banjo Kazooie and Paper Mario will be added in a future update. This service also features a handful of quality-of-life improvements, like the ability to save at any point. With the difficulty of some of these older titles, it’s common for players to want to use this feature.

When booting up a game on Nintendo Switch Online, players may notice a small, black banner on the bottom displaying the control settings for the game. It will highlight the basic controls and how players can suspend the menu or rewind the game if it’s available. For some, this feature might be distracting and take away from looking directly at the game. Fortunately, there is a way to remove this bar.

This works for every individual service from NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and for every N64 game on Nintendo Switch Online. To remove the banner showing the controls, players will need to head over to the settings tab on the left side of the screen. Here, they will notice that the Show Controls in Game box is ticked on by default. Here, players can turn it off or leave it on.

Disabling Controls Display on Nintendo Switch Online

At any point, players can return to this menu in Nintendo Switch Online and turn the controller settings bar back on if they wish. The settings menu also allows players to change a variety of other display and localization settings. For the Sega Genesis, NES, and SNES, players are able to choose between different game screen options. The options are 4:3, Pixel Perfect, and even an older CRT filter to show the games in their natural environments. The Nintendo 64 service allows players to choose between American and European versions of the game. Unfortunately, players aren’t able to full screen the N64 games. The controller display option will need to be turned off individually for each service.

Players might want to hide the onscreen controller display if they fully wish to immerse themselves within the game. Having the controls shown at all times can be distracting, especially for those players with larger TVs or crisper displays. Removing the banner is one of the ways to experience these games closer to their original forms.
