Nokia Just Made A New Smartphone And You Might Actually Want One

Nokia Mobile’s newest phone for the U.S. is the Nokia X100 and although it is a budget 5G device, the T-Mobile exclusive does pack some interesting features which make it worth considering. While many consumers continue to wait for a new Nokia flagship phone to arrive, the company appears to be committed to churning out mid-range and budget smartphones, as well as relaunching old classics.

Although most people around the world are still using older-generation mobile networks, that has not stopped phone manufacturers, including HMD Global, the current licensee for Nokia-branded phones, from launching 5G smartphones. Furthermore, as 5G phones have become more commonly available, the entry price to 5G continues to get lower.

The Nokia X100 is a phone targeted at those who want to hop on to a 5G network while on a budget. It is also a cheaper alternative to the Pixel 5a for those that want a smartphone running a ‘stock’ version of Android. According to The Verge, the new phone will retail a little over $250. For that price, the Nokia X100 provides a number of reasons to buy one, including a large display, four rear cameras, plenty of RAM and storage, and up to two days of battery life.

A Lot Of Phone For Not A Lot Of Money

The Nokia X100 has a design that should be familiar to anyone who has kept an eye on the Nokia smartphones launched this year. The 6.67-inch FHD+ display uses a hole-punch design to house the 16-megapixel front-facing camera, and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The rear camera setup is circular-shaped and houses a 48-megapixel main sensor, along with a 5-megapixel ultrawide, 2-megapixel depth, and 2-megapixel macro. The Snapdragon 480 5G processor is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage along with 15GB of Google Drive storage. There is even a microSD card slot available with support up to 1TB. The Nokia X100 also has a fingerprint scanner buried under the power button and there’s a dedicated button for calling up Google Assistant.

Some of the other features worth noting include facial recognition, NFC, a single nano-SIM slot, audio jack port, FM radio, and Nokia OZO Spatial Audio capture technology. It is also worth mentioning that Nokia has been kind enough to include a charger in the box along with the USB-C cable. At $250, the Nokia X100 offer a lot of features, but it does come running on Android 11 out of the box. For those considering picking one up, the Nokia X100 goes on sale November 19 at T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile in a choice of one color.
