One Piece: 5 Pirates That Coby Can Defeat (& 5 He Doesn’t Stand A Chance Against)

Coby has grown a lot during the events of One Piece. Here’s a look at some Pirates he could defeat (and some that will still give him trouble).

Coby is one of the first characters to debut in One Piece; he was featured in episode one of the anime, earlier than 99% of the cast. Upon his introduction, we were dead sure that he would just be a minor supporting character, and oh boy! Were we wrong. Coby exceeded our every expectation and made multiple reappearances throughout the series’ duration. And before we knew it, he became a marine rear admiral with a bunch of achievements on his name.

Over the years, Coby witnessed major developments both strength-wise and personality-wise. And while he might not be the toughest marine out there, he certainly is on his route to becoming one. Here are a few pirates the current Coby can overwhelm, and a few that he wouldn’t be able to– for now at least.

10 Can Defeat: Buggy The Clown

Buggy is a character who is considered an enigma by the One Piece community. He sailed on the Pirate King’s ship alongside the likes Shanks, yet for some odd reason, he turned out like that. He is a paper tiger that relied on his non-existent prowess to forge a name for himself; and for another odd reason, everyone just ends up buying his bull.

Despite being in the game for decades, Buggy is still no match for Coby — a teenager with only a couple of years worth of marine service.

9 Doesn’t Stand A Chance: Zoro

Coby’s history with Zoro goes way back to East Blue. They first met when Luffy and Coby – each with his own agenda – intruded upon a small marine division. Luffy wanted to recruit Zoro while Coby desired to join the marines.

It’s an indisputable fact that these two are not on the same level. In all likelihood, Zoro is already at commander level; whilst Coby is only a rear admiral. He is a few years too early to stand on the same battlefield as Zoro.

8 Can Defeat: Alvida

The reason Coby stumbled upon Luffy in the first place was because of Alvida; who was a small-time pirate by then. Coby suffered an inhumane treatment abroad Alvida’s ship; he was forced to work with his life on the line. But then, we were reminded of the irony of fate. Alvida abducting Coby essentially led to everything that followed.

7 Doesn’t Stand A Chance: Trafalgar Law

During the timeskip, Coby and Law had a confrontation at Rocky Port. The incident hit the mainstream and contributed greatly to Coby’s future promotions; he was also dubbed as the people’s hero after said incident. We are not fully aware of the details, but apparently, there were no punches traded between Coby and Law.

Law has an edge over Coby in almost every aspect. Besides his overpowered devil fruit ability, he has a higher level of proficiency in Haki and much more experience.

6 Can Defeat: Gecko Moria

Gecko Moria is an ex-shichibukai who was taken down by Luffy. Apparently, he no longer met the shichibukai standard, so he had to be laid off. To begin with, Moria was never introduced as a strong character; he is a man who compiled all his ‘glory’ by heavily relying on his devil fruit ability and others. If these two were removed from the equation, he would become a nobody.

In terms of individual strength, Moria is indeed a weakling. He doesn’t have any Haki nor does he have strong physical capabilities. It would most likely be an easy win for Coby.

5 Doesn’t Stand A Chance: Eustass Kid

Eustass” Captain” Kid is one of the infamous supernovas and a central figure in the ongoing Wano arc. Kid garnered immense infamy way prior to the timeskip; upon reaching Sabaody Archipelago, he had a staggering bounty of 315,000,000 Beli — the highest amongst all the supernovas.

Strength-wise, Kid definitely is a tough nut to crack. He has an advanced mastery in all three types of Haki and kickass devil fruit — one that is more than enough to take down Coby.

4 Can Defeat: Brulee

Despite her low strength, Brulee was one of the Whole Cake Island arc’s most prominent antagonists. Due to her presence, she caused major inconvenience to the Straw Hats both directly and indirectly– all due to her devil fruit ability. It has no offensive capabilities whatsoever, but if she wanted to escape, even a Yonko would find it troublesome to fetch her out.

With that being said, that’s all there is to the devil fruit. If she were to directly confront Coby, she would end up losing without a doubt.

3 Doesn’t Stand A Chance: Katakuri

Brulee might be an easy win for Coby, but her elder brother sure isn’t. Katakuri was dubbed as a perfect man by the entire Charlotte family for the majority of his life. Both his combat prowess and mental fortitude are among the top within Big Mom’s crew.

Katakuri is a Yonko commander — and a strong one at that. He is at a level way beyond what the current Coby could handle.

2 Can Defeat: Caribou

Caribou was a super rookie who was first introduced in the return to Sabaody arc. After he got into an entanglement with the Straw Hats, his life did a one-eighty.

Caribou is an overblown character who isn’t half as strong as he’d make you believe. Just like Moria, he heavily relied on his devil fruit to achieve whatever he little achieved. If you take that away from him, he’d be a subpar pirate at best. Such pirates won’t be a match to the seasoned Coby.

1 Doesn’t Stand A Chance: Luffy

Lastly, we have Monkey D. Luffy, the main source of inspiration to Coby’s endeavors. From the get-go, Luffy has been nothing but a stimulus for Coby. His signature phrase of wanting to become the pirate king was the spark that ignited Coby’s motivation.

While the two are technically rivals, they are not necessarily in the same league. Coby has achieved some big things, but Luffy wasn’t the one sleeping either. The only outcome resulting from a Coby vs Luffy battle would be the former’s defeat.
