The navigator of the Straw Hats has changed quite a bit and simultaneously, she has remained the same.

The second person to join the Straw Hat Crew, Nami, is one of the most cherished female characters in One Piece. All of the Straw Hats took those two years of them being apart very seriously.

The tragic loss at Sabaody Archipelago changed all of them for the better. Two years later, Nami has become a better navigator, fighter, and friend. She is also still feisty and materialistic. (We are talking about Nami, here). Here are 5 ways Nami has changed and 5 ways She has stayed the same.

10 She Has Changed: Her Hair Got Longer

Nami usually always sports a short cut hairstyle, so it’s surprising for fans to see how long her hair has gotten, in those two years. She looks like a completely different person with her new hairdo. She looks great, it just caught many fans off guard.

9 Stayed The Same: Nami Still Punishes The Guy’s When They Do Something Stupid

Nami is known to scold Luffy and the others for making poor decisions. Even in the New World, Nami still reigns supreme. During the Fishman Island arc, she beats up Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro for giving away all the treasure. She also hits Luffy for picking a fight with Big Mom. All the others except for Zoro and Sanji are furious about Luffy doing that.

8 She Has Changed: She’s Become More Of A Fighter

Earlier in the series, the Cat Burglar wasn’t much of a fighter, compared to the other Straw Hat’s. That’s not to say she can’t hold her own in a fight, because she can. Nami did take down a CP9 agent. However, during the time skip, Nami has shown how powerful she has really become.

She assisted Luffy in taking down Cracker, by using her Clima-Tact staff to produce rain, so Luffy could eat the Cracker soldiers. She manages to defeat one of Big Mom’s children, Brulee, in a fight. Nami eventually obtains Zeus, a powerful thundercloud created by Big mom. He is now stored in her Clima-Tact Bo staff.

7 Stayed The Same: She’s Still Obsessed With Berries

The fact Nami still puts money over everything else, is not surprising, at all. It’s just who she is, as a person. She knows how hard life is without money. Be that as it may, sometimes she can be a bit much. As a matter of fact, during the Zu arc, a few of the crew members had to stop Nami from trying to charge Kin’emon to assist Momonuske in taking back is the kingdom from Kaido. She charged Igaram to aide Princess Vivi in freeing Alabasta from Crocodile, two years ago. Yep, when it comes to berries, Nami hasn’t changed.

6 She Has Changed: Her Navigation Skills Got Better

While on Weatheria, Nami’s skills as a navigator have increased. Before entering the Grand Line, Nami had no clue of the arbitrary weather patterns, or how normal compasses malfunction due to the strong magnetic fields of the island. Therefore, she learned how to navigate the Grand Line by ear. However, since spending two years on Weatheria, Nami can study the climate of the New World, so now she is able to anticipate the weather.

5 Stayed The Same: She’ll Still Charge Her Crew

There is no question that Nami is forever devoted to her crew. That doesn’t mean that won’t charge them. Nami is notoriously known and loathed for charging the other members of the Straw Hat Crew. Prior to Sanji joining, once, she offered to cook for Luffy and Ussop, in exchange for berries. Two years later, she does the same exact thing, while Sanji is away. When it comes to money, she will never change.

4 She Has Changed: She Won’t Try To Diffuse A Tense Situation Between Crew Members

In the past, Nami has always tried to mediate a tense situation between her crew members. To be more specific, during the Water 7 arc, she attempts to talk Luffy out of dueling Usopp. She does this because she wants to keep the crew together.

This time, however, she doesn’t try to do that when Sanji leaves, or interfere with him and Luffy’s duel. In fact, she offers they leave Whole Cake, to prevent Sanji from hurting Luffy. After the duel, Nami slaps the cook, furiously, and tells him goodbye. According to her, he crossed a line. Luffy just wanted to talk, and Sanji wouldn’t hear him out.

3 Stayed The Same: She Still An Awesome Negotiator

Where would the Straw Hats be without Nami’s negotiation skills? They honestly wouldn’t get far. In the pre-time skip, Nami handled the negotiations for the Straw Hats. Two years later, she hasn’t lost it. While in the Seducing Forest, Nami manipulates Big Mom’s homies in assisting her and Luffy in taking down Cracker. She does this by using the Vivre Card that Lola (Big Mom’s daughter) gave her, back on Thriller Bark. She also tricks one of Big Mom’s strongest homies, Zeus, into joining her, in exchange for feeding him lightning clouds.

2 She Has Changed: She Won’t Argue With Luffy When He Makes A Serious Decision

In the pre-time skip, Nami was always criticizing her captain when he made a decision regarding the fate of the Straw Hat Crew. Once, in fact, she calls him selfish when he lets everyone know that he wants them to train for two years before they get back together.

She has learned to put a lot more trust in Luffy’s choices. For example, when Luffy is lecturing Momonuske on being a leader, Nami tries to intervene, then, Luffy puts his hand up. Nami understandably stays out of it. She knows he isn’t trying to bully the boy, rather, teach him that he needs to learn how to make his own choices. Nami has grown a lot since then.

1 Stayed The Same: She Will do Anything For The Straw Hats

Nami has always had a strong bond with the Straw Hats and will do anything for them. Since they first met, the Cat Burglar has proven she is a loyal friend, even when they weren’t friends, just yet. Nami diffuses Buggy’s cannonball, that’s directed at Luffy. True, she is responsible for putting him in that predicament, anyway, but around that time, Nami didn’t care much for pirates due to her history with Arlong. Luffy helped change her perspective on pirates.

Two years later, she still proves to be an asset to the team. During the Whole Cake arc, Nami holds her own against Cracker, while Luffy recuperates from using Gear 4. Although Nami has gotten stronger over the years, she is still not that much of a fighter. Plus, Cracker is a tough enemy Luffy couldn’t even defeat.
